Police investigate an armed robbery and shooting at a La Mesa travel and coin shop during which a suspected robber is killed and two store owners are hurt.

LA MESA: One man was fatally shot and two people were injured yesterday afternoon in an armed robbery at a travel agency and foreign currency exchange/coin shop, police said.
The robbery occurred about 1 p.m. at Travel Wizard on University Avenue near Lee Avenue.

the robbery suspect died and the store owners, a 59-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman, were injured. Their names were not immediately released.

police received a 911 call from the business. When officers arrived, they found the robbery suspect lying on the sidewalk about 50 feet from the front door with gunshot wounds. Efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful and he died at the scene, Bond said.

A handgun and a satchel of money were found nearby, he said. U.S. and foreign currency was taken, he said.

the male owner was shot multiple times and the woman was shot twice. The male owner, who came out of the store covered in blood, was airlifted to a hospital, and the woman, who was found in the store's back office, was taken to a hospital by ambulance, Bond said.

Gathering what evidence? Maybe that the shop owner stood outside his shop and provoked a passerby? Case closed.
