PCGS VAM Re-holdering Question

lkrarecoinslkrarecoins Posts: 2,137 ✭✭✭
From a resale standpoint, is it worth having the variety mentioned on an unattributed PCGS-holdered VAM (assuming a nicely graded Top 100, Hot 50, or Hit List 40)?

Or keep unattributed, as is, and just mention it in the sale?

I guess my question is: Is there more of a premium for a VAM that says so on the holder?

Thanks for ur advice,
Len

Depends on the VAM. Some are certainly worth getting attributed but others even in the Top 100 arent really worth a premium and you'd just be out the fee.

Yes; some people won't bid/buy unless the holder says so. Since PCGS backs their VAM attributions with a guarantee, this makes
some sense if dealing with an unknown seller.

But you'll have to calculate whether the $20 fee + shipping, handling & insurance is worth the increase in re-sale value.

I own an NGC certified Mint Error Morgan. It is designated as such (Partial Collar Strike) on the holder, is the finest know of the type error for a Morgan, and is also a high R factor VAM. But there ain't any room left on the insert for the VAM attribution. Do I care? NAH!image

If its worth the attribution, then yes. I recently sent an NGC 63 1878 VAM 15 to be attributed, because im sure it will sell better labeled as a top 100 coin.
