VCP price help

I stopped my membership to VCP during the Spring/Summer because I don't have much time for my collection, but I do need help for the price of a 33 Goudey PSA 5 Lefty Grove. Thanks for the help.

Figured I'd just bump an old thread. We should really just start an official thread for VCP help. Can anyone tell me 1972 Topps Carlton Fisk rookie PSA 9 VCP recent sales? There are actually 2 on eBay right now and I'm pondering how much I would need to pay to add to my Fisk registry. Thank you in advance.

That can't be. Are you sure you're looking at the right card? Those look like the prices for really nice PSA 9 73 or 74's. Are you sure that's for 1972 Topps card #79 in PSA 9? I was almost certain that card sold for somewhere between $300 and $700. One of the two on eBay right now is at $353 with 3 days left. Thanks.

Not so sure if I like the idea of where this thread is going... I don't mind people giving out samples of our work but there is a limit.

I can understand why you wouldn't want a consolidated thread.

Can also understand why you would want at least 10 separate threads per month about your service.

If it were me, I would want the latter as well...

edited: sorry, there have only been 8 VCP threads, so far, created this month and 9 last month.

He doesnt want that either stown. He only wants people to join (obviously), and has griped a few times already about people giving out free VCP info.

or people can just buck up the $10 and join themselves. is it fair to ask for a free service when the rest of us pay for it?

That becomes a dilly of a pickle.

Bam members who share the information but then loses their monthly fee.

    Decisions, decisions..

Welcome to the internet age, where all information should be free.

Pat, it is a great service, and I do subscribe to it. That being said, there are MANY board members that need a price check once a month (or every other month), and it is just not worth the $10 a month fee (a very fair price if you use it often enough) For them, asking in a thread for a VCP check is a very big help. That's how I started out, then I started working on a few sets, so joining became the obvious answer for me (as it may for them as well).

    Bobbyvcp,

I use your service and I love it, but it would be nice to see you more involved in these forums rather than just pushing your company.

This is exactly the position I'm in. I don't necessarily want to mooch of anyone else's subscription, but the one time every 3-4 months where I buy a high profile card (something over $200 in my case) isn't worth it to me to subscribe for $100/year. I'd rather spend that $100 on a card. If I start buying more than what I do for cards valued over $50, I'm sure I'll subscribe, but I'm simply not going to do it right now. And I don't fault collectors who do subscribe for helping guys like me out, they're just being friends of the hobby, which there are far to few of. If necessary we can ask for help over PM so as not to publicly upset VCP, but it's going to happen regardless and posting on a public forum is often times faster than PMing someone who may not be at their computer.

PS, if you can think of some way to incentivize me to join (like PSA with free subs and books etc), maybe I would consider it. If you published an annual book (of 2008 sales e.g.) that would cost you $20 each to produce and gave it away as a reference book with each 1 year subscription, those are the types of things that would light a fire under me to join when I don't really need to...just a thought.

Fair, but kind of gauche to do it on a public board.

I actually just re-started my membership the other day. I still think there's probably a more efficient way to organize the data and reduce the amount of required clicking, but the volume of information makes it worth the price.

Sure there is. But then all of the information farmers would be able to siphon off the accumulated data and integrate the information into another format or website. I think VCP makes it as convenient as possible without making it too easy for someone to phish all of the data out. Just my two cents . . . and I am a subscriber who does get a little frustrated by the volume of clicking necessary to find information.

I'm also frustrated when I try to look up 1970 Thurman Munson Topps and OPC information only to find the cards are not listed, then it shows up for a few days, then it is gone again. What's up with the Bobby?

First of all I do try to contribute to this board as much as I possible can with what knowledge I do have in regards to cards in general. But now that everyone knows me for the most part they mostly want price information and history.

To answer otwcards about the search for players and some cards not showing. A couple of weeks ago we made some changes to make the site faster when doing searches. One of the drawbacks is when a players rookie card is on a multiplayer card such as most great players from the 60's. To properly search these you need to use the "Search" on the navigation bar and not the flash one at the top. After you enter the players name you need to click "Include Multi-Player Cards" button right below.

I promise when ever I can jump in on any subject it will be done.
