    Accurate.

It's a shame they're slabbing these problem coins under the same DGS banner. They may become another dumping ground like ANACS, where searching for coins in their holders returns 75% problem coins and makes it less useful to include their holders in searches.

I understand that. But they could have went the NGC route and labeled them under a different service name (i.e. some other alphabet soup name that isn't 'DGS'). At least someone doing a search for problem-free coins can include NGC search without getting all the NCS problems returned as well. We can't do that with ANACS, and apparently, not DGS either.

    Fairly accurate, IMO

Accurate and properly described. I guess the owner could have paid more and gotten it back in a genuine PCGS body bag.

Should have been net graded, dang the hole is through the date
But someone likes it more than me

Accurate. And as the auction description reads...

"As it is, this is a terrific piece of American coin history. George Washington had died just the year previous. President John Adams was embroiled in an undeclared navel war with France, trying to cool off a war fever. Thomas Jefferson was doing all he could to undermine the Adams administration. And, well, sounds like politics, doesn't it."

DGS is not net grading. The wear grade is stated along with the defects.

I don't know about the grade since the pictures are blocked to me here at work, but the listing violates eBay policy and might get pulled. But maybe the self appointed eBay police are too busy searching for PCI and SEGS and haven't started hunting down DGS yet.

That's terrible!!!!! That coin has been through a garbage disposal, but there's no mention of the obvious cleaning or numerous rim dings. I wouldn't be surprised if the coin is a fake looking like that. If this is DGS, then DGS is a joke.

    Pulled. That was quick.

Looks like DGS still has some work to do with eBay. They're not long for this world otherwise, IMO.

It's not fake, and the degree of the other problems you mentioned all are within the boundaries of market acceptability.

I would like to have seen it.

Must admit, I think that in view of the treasure trove of info and opinion about the caliber of grading services available to all, ebay should abandon their restrictions and let people use their noggin when deciding if and when to bid on a coin irrespective of the surrounding plastic.

Looks like DGS should work with the ANA or what ever powers e-bay follows to get their slabs recognized as collector friendly.

    From the DGS website....

    1. Can I list DGS-graded coins for sale on eBay?

At the moment you cannot list DGS-graded coins on eBay with the DGS name and grade in the item headline. Since we are a new startup, we must establish credibility with eBay before they will approve DGS grades. We are working hard to make that happen!

I'd link it but the thread would go poof....

    Not this guy's market...or PCGS's....or NGC's probably.

  • I must have looked at about 100 coins at the DGS website, the vast majority of which I feel are graded accurately. There's a Morgan I would have graded one point Higher (the 1879-S), a Peace Dollar I would grade one point lower (one of the 1922-D's), etc. Here is one, however, where they did miss something (it's not noted in red print).

I would be willing to bet that the auction was reported to eBay by either:

    1. Someone associated with one of the "approved" eBay TPG's or...

    2. Someone from this forum that sells on eBay and is bitter that their own auctions have been pulled in the past.

That said, if DGS fails to win eBay approval they will fail.

I have sent them four coins, all of which were properly graded. Unless they win eBay approval I won't be sending any more EVEN THOUGH I WOULD LIKE TO!

Not trying to slam you but numismatic companies were here long before ebay and will be here long after ebay goes poof.
