Can Someone Explain This Auction Bidding To Me??

Rob41281Rob41281 Posts: 2,406 ✭✭✭✭✭
I won this auction. I had a max bid at $120 then bumped it to $150. Flooring bidding ended at $90 so why does it show me bidding against myself up to my max bid? Why didnt i win this lot at $95??

Call the Goldbergs and ask the question. I think that's strange too, but you just never know who tried to outbid you at the end.

The auction houses and ebay always have trouble correlating their info. I'd be willing to bet it was bid up by a floor bidder, but it didn't get entered into the computer as such.

I hope you were up against a floor bidder. Anything else would be a major rip.

My guess--and notice I said guess--is that after floor bidding ended Ebay submitted bids for you up to the consignor's reserve. Since the reserve, if any, is unknown to Ebay on a live auction your bids went up by increments rather than in one fell swoop to meet the reserve.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

I thought maybe reserve too but the estimated value was $60. I doubt they'd have a $150 reserve. --Jerry

I wanted that coin but wasnt gonna have access to a computer for a few days, so I decided to put in a bid I didnt think would be beat. When I got home yesterday and checked the results I saw that I had won it for my max. After checking the bid history something didnt seem right. Ive got a email into them now, prob try calling later this afternoon.

The bidding history totally stinks on that one and I would seriously question it with the Goldbergs especially since the increments go up at $10 a shot to your max!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Well, Rob41281............, I think the auction house will only require you to pay one increment over the underbidder. If not, you'll have to wait til you're 97 years old to break even for what you'll be into it for.
I never bid on any of those live auctions. They're for suckers. Floor bidder always have the advantage.
I just bid on regular Ebay auctions, and I always snipe.
