Intended as award medals for the event which was located in the Crystal Palace of New York. Dies engraved by Charles Cushing Wright.

Commemorating the departure of the Continental Army from Valley Forge under the command of General Washington, June 19,1778. Dies engraved by William Barber. This bronze example one of 400 struck by the U.S. Mint in June 1880. A single gold example and 20 silver examples known to have been produced. The 2nd pair of angled images offered to highlight the prooflike qualities of the surfaces.
