Also there are 3 (S) mint marks one after the Z @7pm another after D @4;30pm and after the G @ 2:55pm all above the Periods.
From left @9pm ( * 8 R . Z . 1887 . F . Z . 10 D . 20 G . ) @3pm.
I hope this helps. thanks.
Z - there is probably a Z followed by a little s (the "mintmark" you refer to) which is Zs, or Zacatecas mint, FZ is the assayer's initials. Zs is actually the mintmark, there were several around mexico, at least 8 or 10.
Aside from the date I bet your coin looks a lot like mine, same assayer and mintmark even?
Hi YaHa
<< <i> 8 R . Z . 1887 F . Z . 10Ds 20Gs >>
Means
8R--------------- = Eight Reales
Z---------------- = Zacatecas (mint mark)
1887----------- = Year of mintage
F.Z.------------- = Essayer initials
10Ds 20Gs-----= Silver content (ten dineros twenty granos) 0.9030 silver .7859 Oz.
There were two 8 Reales from the same mint and year (Zacatecas 1887), one shows the mint mark as Zs and the other just a Z which is the one you have and also a little more rare.
They had a mintage of 4, 733, 000 combined and the North American Coin and Prices guide lists them at:
Prices in.........F........VF.......XF......UNC
1887 Zs-------10-----12-----20------65
1887 Z---------20-----30-----50----100
Keep in mind that prices here may not reflect the real market value
