<< <i>Totally packed in here, more so than any other Goldberg sale I've ever attended. >>

If CRO's luck on bidding on some lots will be like mine, it may read " I bid big, but lost to bigger. This lousy t-shirt is all i came away with".
one thing is for sure with this historic auction; many/most of the estimated prices are a joke and to win them, the price guides will be worthless. Fingers crossed though!

Let's try to stay positive and think good thoughts right up until the time that our bids are swamped and we get nothing.
When it comes to coin/imaging photography at Goldbergs, they sure put the Heritage's motley crew to shame! Incredible coin pictures in the Goldberg's auctions! Hats off to them! True assets to the coin hobby.

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!
if a dealer is "worried" that coins are going to go for big money, does said dealer ever "worry" that his core customers are going to rebel against the prices one day?
i know that i work on a very small scale compared to higher end customers but when a no motto coin i used to buy a few years ago for 200 is now almost double at 350-375.. i feel that there is not very good value for my money anymore and simply stop buying.
it is an auction room where coins are being auctioned. the title of this auction is millenia. you know, marketing ;-)
just another coin auction. sometimes the quality of the goods are superior to others and the name brings fond memories.. well not memories yet.. but it is simply a label.
It is a completely ordinary small function room on the 2nd floor of the Crown Plaza Hotel in Beverly Hills, just down the block from Goldberg's offices, in which they conduct all of their auctions.
Today they are conducting the sale of "The Millenia Collection" in three catalogs encompassing 1,211 lots of coins which are significant enough and sufficiently sought after that most every prominent dealer in world coins is here (physically, or via a representative), in the room, right now, bidding wildly.
How does the auction room compare to the new, palatial space that Stack's has for auctions?

<< <i>How does the auction room compare to the new, palatial space that Stack's has for auctions? >>
This room is about 30% larger than Stack's new space, with 7 rows of tables containing approximately 15 chairs each, and then another 10 or 15 people milling around by the buffet, picking at the last piece of cake, and occasionally walking past my aisle seat and kicking out my laptop plug by accident.
There are also two large support columns in the middle, which create obstructed view seats behind (one of which Dave is sitting in) almost exactly like at Fenway Park.
But while this space is decorated in what I would term "1980's cheeseball hotel chic", Stack's new space has all the charm of a brand new cubicle in any non-descript office building in America, with high quality plastic walls and chairs with purple trim which some industrial engineer somewhere must have determined are a boon to productivity.

I glanced through the first 40 or so lots sold and OHMYGOSH! The "worst" one was exactly at the top of the estimate range. A couple were just above, and many were multiples of the high estimate.

As stated, the estimates don't mean anything, and so winning bids that exceed an estimate doesn't mean there was rampant interest in the coin.
Actually, we are currently in the 540s, and the room is pretty quiet without much buzz at all (perhaps to be expected after 7 straight hours of lots without more than a few minute break). Stuff is still selling well though, and there are multiple bidders on most lots.
I heard from the grapevine, that this was the largest dollar amount auction ever conducted in the history of the Goldberg Auction House. From the sound of the Auction prices now coming out I do not doubt it at all.

That's fine. Medium for me. If they run big, I'll take a small. And no itchy fiber.

I might quit my day job and join the CRO marketing department (even though I was never formally asked to join).

The photography really is stunning.
By the way, I bid on just one coin, lot #765, a 1648 Netherlands Lion Daalder. The catalog estimate was $300-$400; I bid $405.
The actual price realized was $3,800.
