new ebay feedback policy, negatives on old auctions as well

just got a neg from a sale that was before the new change date.

so buyers can leave neg's for transactions that took place before may 12th or whatever
the date was..

I offered the buyer a refund, they were un-happy with the items,

they still left a negative.....of course a newbie with 5 feedback.

it's always the newbies on ebay who give me trouble,\

ebay should not allow new buyers to leave feedback until they have taken some course on how to use their site.

Bummer....can you leave the retalitory neg or not???

Not saying to do it, just will the system allow you the option?

  • yeh, no, that's what I meant.

buyer bought item last month, left us a neg, which was un-called for,
so I went to leave them a neg, they deserved one, and the system would
    not let me do it.

There are some forum members that think this new system for EBAY feedback is a welcome change. Just wait until it bites them.

Yesterday I almost left a negative feedback for a seller on eBay who is well known here for using stock photos. Well, of course, the coin I received was not as nice looking as the one in the stock photo, so I was a little upset with it. Emailed seller for return/refund, and didn't hear back for around 3 weeks, at that time I didn't really care anymore and figured it wasn't worth returning (only a $50 coin). I didn't leave feedback since it wouldn't be positive and I didn't want a retalitory. Well about 2 weeks ago the seller left me positive feedback (must be semi-automatic). Now that the feedback change is here, I thought about at least leaving a neutral based on the stock photos and the slow communication. Decided not to as it is a little unfair of me to do that nearly 3 months after the sale and only after the change in feedback policy, especailly when I could have gotten a refund with perhaps a bit more effort. Oh well, I can see the reasons for leaving the negs though... Isn't that what the feedback system is really for??

Not speaking of your case. But I would think in some situations an honest seller may have a good reason to leave a neg for a dishonest or deadbeat buyer.

I know of no seller who thinks it's a welcome change. There are some of us, though, who don't happen to believe the sky is falling, eBay is going bankrupt, and the world coming to an end.

The worst are the neutrals that were left over 6 months ago that now turn into negatives.

    how is a neutral (0) considered a negative (-)

    this makes no sense.

I am glad that I do not own ebay stock as it seems like it will be in decline for some time to come.

Yet somehow everyone I know buys stuff off of e-bay. Stuff they can pick up locally for less. Sellers that leave this leave at their own loss. The masses are still there to buy up your old stuff.

I have no problem with eBay using neutrals to calculate the positive feedback percentage. Afterall, a neutral is not a positive so all this does is correct the nonsensical way they did it before. But, they should NOT have made it retroactive. That was incredibly stupid.

Yeah, makes me glad I had the neutral I received removed (buyer confused me and another seller when he left feedback.....gave me the neutral meant for the other guy....all worked out in the end, and if I had deserved a neutral, I would have accepted it, but it wasn't an issue with my sale so I didn't want it).

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I have 5 years of positives. I'm waiting on payment (only a week, one invoice sent and ZERO correspondence, even though I ask to let me know if paying by check or MO) from a 5 feedbacker. I have this wierd feeling I'll be gettin a neg. Oh well, smart buyers will see through it. (I hope). That 1st neg is gonna bug the f$#% outta me though.

My understanding that is no longer an option for feedback removal. For sellers that are considering leaving a false positive (positive with negative comments) for a buyer since they can no longer leave a negative or neutral, eBay has made it clear that will not be tolerated. If a buyer complains to eBay the comments will be removed.

Buyer doesn't even have to complain. I know of at least one case where they didn't. The positive remains, and the comment left is replaced by "Comment removed by eBay". In addition, if a seller reports a neg that violates policy - for example has swear words - the neg remains but eBay replaces comment with the same verbiage.

hmmm.... I did not know that. Truly a shame. I think if you can make a strong case that the neg was not justified someone should be there to listen and mediate.

On the plus side, eBay is following through on their pledge to remove bidders who abuse the feedback system and delete the feedback they left. I know of two cases so far.

  • That's why eBay has added an interstitial page with questions designed to encourage communication with the seller that a buyer must check off before leaving a negative or neutral for a seller. For Powersellers, you can't leave a negative or neutral before 7 days as well. If a buyer is subsequently suspended for any violations, any negative feedback they have left will be removed.
