Winterhilfswerk coins

Hi All,
I'm a new poster here, have been reading for a while though. I posted this to rec.collecting.coin with no responses, wondering if anyone knows here:

I was just browsing on ebay.de and I found some coins/medals for sale called
Winterhilfswerk coins. Having never heard of them I looked them up on
Wikipedia and found they are pieces the nazi's sold to raise money for the
poor and by the sounds of it there were many different pieces.

Does anyone know much about these or if there are any references, they sound
like they could be very collectable.

Thanks,
Andrew

    Andrew:

Welcome to the forum. When Ron Guth (germancoins.com) listed Third Reich items, he usually had some along with other items from this program. You might email Ron and see what he has.3Mark

Ron may have some reference works or know where there might be some. BTW, Preussen has a great Third Reich type set in proof and unc. and a great 2 and 5 mark set.3Mark

  • Wow, sounds like there are a good range of 'World' coin collectors here.

I managed to complete a full date/mintmark set for all the 3rd Reich 'normal' coins (doesn't include the military coinage or occupation issues) about 2 years ago, hardest bit was getting all of the nickel 50pfs and 1RMs. The conditions of some of them aren't great, would like to get some proofs one day.

At the moment I'm going for the full lot of 1 Mark coins for the whole time they were issued (1973-2001), am well on my way, but as always getting the funds are an issue. I've got a 'want list' going for swaps if anyone is interested, only issue is that I'm in Australia so I'd prefer Australian collectors (International postage can get expensive, espicially with insurance). I also keep any unique German small coins I get, figure one day I'll be starting a 1, 2, 5, 10 and 50pf collection.

Oh, BTW, does anyone know how to get a picture to appear above your name?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

Congrats; Some 3rd Reich coins are harder to find than many folks realize.

You lost me here. Who minted 1 Mark coins only from 1973-2001 image I'll assume you mean West Germany. I don't collect 'em, but according to "money trend," West Germany minted 1 Mark coins from 1950 until 2001 (in mint sets only, 1997-2001).

Click on "profile" and select an "author icon" from those listed, or you can upload your own on (I believe) the 15th of each month. I recommend selecting one for temporary use, then uploading your own later on. You're free to use any of the ones listed permanently, but most (all?) were created by other users, and some folks are "funny" about seeing theirs used by someone else. -Preussen

  • That was a typo, I meant 1873-2001, that's the whole lot from Empire to BDR (I'm putting a timeframe of more than a couple of years on the task).

Only upload pics on the 15th??? Oh well, I guess I'm happy with a 'x' beside my name for now.

Oh, OK; that makes more sense image ...that'll be quite a job, good luck. Regarding the author icon, you can choose one from the available list at any time, but you can only upload your own once a month. -Preussen
