I think I bit on this ebay spoof email

I never click on ebay mail without signing in on my browser and checking my messages first but today I did and signed in first thru the email. It hadn't finished the log-in process before I realized what I did so I closed it. Then I signed in via my browser and sure enough, there was no mention of this in my messages. I immediately changed both my ebay and paypal passwords and sent the email to spoof@ebay.com and haven't heard back from them yet but I'm convinced it is a apoof mail, it sure looked like an ebay mail .... had my name at the top (not user name) and all the bells and whistles to make it look real.

I never thought I'd get taken in by one these, guess I was wrong, just goes to show you that you can never let your guard down. Here's a copy of a portion of the spoof.

Sometimes it takes a little while for it to show up. Post your log in name and password here and we'll check it out...image

I have noticed that Ebay messages can be VERY slow at times. I've made offers that have taken ten hours to show up in my messages.

Maybe there is just a lag. I'd still be cautious of any email claiming to be from Ebay or PayPal.

I will often receive messages from eBay via email before they show up in my messages.

But it's better to be safe than sorry.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Even if you did get taken, you're fine since you changed your password. I juggle too many things sometimes and with one kid screaming into each ear while I was preparing supper and concurrently trying to reply to the day's e-mails one evening I logged into a spoof site.

I immediately realized what I had done. Now it was a race between me and the scammer to see who could change my password first. He had my old one, so did I. I immediately sent the kids upstairs in the "Don't even think about arguing" voice. I logged in to the real site as fast as I could but couldn't quickly find the change e-mail link. I searched and found it and changed my password before they could. The day was saved.

Whenever I get a login screen that seems at all fishy I just type in the wrong password. If it is a scammer, they won't know it's the wrong one. If it is legit, I'll immediately get the "wrong password" message, then I'll type in the right one.

  • I Had a similar situation last week. The message was not in my E-Bay messages soo i sent it to spoof@ebay.com. Two days later i got a reply that it WAS from E-Bay. They said that not all E-Mail from them will be in "My Messages",depending on your preference settings. I Wrote back and told them that this was totally Stupid on their part. How is a user supposed to really know the difference from a scam or a real thing? I've been a power seller over 9 years and i would have no way of knowing it was real or not. I Always use extreme caution and NEVER Click on any links in my regular E-Mail no matter how good it Looks. Ray in Florida..

Man, I would love to be part of that program. Anyone have a link ( a real one) that I could try to sign up for that? I buy a lot of stuff on Ebay.

I got this offer upon logging in to eBay.

Before any message or email, I was given this offer when I logged in.

I knew for sure that I was on the real eBay and not some look-alike page, BTW but

just to be SAFE, I logged out completely and then logged back in and the same invitation

was still there - and with each item I consider there is a little rectangle showing me how much

I would save in actual dollars & cents along with a constant reminder of the 3% savings.

Good to be careful and apprehensive though. Can't be TOO careful these days! image
  • Not in "my messages" = probably spam...hover over the link and if its a subdomain its probably spam...for example if its like ebay.qxcy.com its probably a scam...check the extension JUST before the .com if its not ebay its probably spam.

I bit on one once, as soon as I entered my password I realized what I had done, so I did a quick reboot than changed all my passwords.

    Turned out it was OK.
