Should the pop reports be public information (free)?

lcoopielcoopie Posts: 8,873 ✭✭✭✭✭
I own pcgs coins

PCGS stands behind the stated grade, authenticity, etc.

I believe I should be able to check the pop reports without paying an additional fee

(NGC allows you to check their reports)

I know what the company thinks, and they have every right to do as they think best for the company,
but what do you think about it?

    thanks for the reply

register at heritage, you can find the information there you probably need
  • If i'm not mistaken, you can open a registry set without being a paid member. When you add the certification number to your inventory it will tell you how many of your coins are at that grade, how many are graded higher and how many are graded lower.

I can tell you that I don't think ABOUT it, perhaps you want to know what we think OF it. Since the data wasn't gathered at public expense, PCGS is under no obligation to give it away for free. How would it benefit them to give it away?

NGC has free access to their pops on their web site.

And this data is w-a-a-a-y more current than the online Pops!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

I am a paying member and one of the perks of this membership is access to this information. So, for a low starting price I am willing to give you my PayPow™ address and share this information with you.

For as low as $3.99 I will give you the population report on 2 coins.

    Deal or No Deal ?

to allow full public disclosure of the coins it grades
would allow everyone to know clearly how many they have graded
to be a service to the collectors, being collectors universe after all
    why the big secret?

Only if you're wearing a skimpy c-cktail dress and stiletto heels, and are carrying a metal briefcase....

(I can't believe the board censor won't let me post a common word for an alcoholic beverage. Good golly!)

  • I think YOU should provide us board members a free meal when we ask.....like now...it's lunch time!

Are you amenable to this, lcoopie?

    If not, why not?

...that's the problem in America today, the mentality that you are owed something from someone else (at no cost) because you desire it.

OMG! Obamanites have infiltrated Coin Collecting!

NGC does not give you the price guide for free, which PCGS does.

There is nothing that would require them to publicly post this information. Its just another benefit of a membership ($$$).image

I think PCGS should provide the POP report free, just like NGC does. It seems to me this would get more people to access the PCGS web site, which is good for business. It could even encourage more people to purchase PCGS coins, after they see how rare they seem to be.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

    mozin.. that ok with you?

Display your collection as we eat, you might get a sale! Is that a good deal for you?

We will let YOU decide if that is wise, (thank god) , in American we can't force this situation upon you....yet!

Isn't the validity of the population report in question ? Didn't Russ prove a long time ago with one of his photos how invalid the reports are for SOME coins ? This is across the street, too. Let's not forget the "crack out" game. Does anyone think it's stopped ?

I would buy many of the "helpful" board members whom I do not know with a free lunch for their helpful advise and kindness.

Me 2, .....but not all of them....why? Some will take advantage of us and just eat like pigs and not even clean up. When its free, the giver has no choice and he must accept the unintended consequences such as trash, etc.

Since we both STILL have the FREEDOM to decide whom we want to give the free eats to, lets hope we can preserve that ABILITY TO DECIDE WHO GETS OUR FOOD FOR FREE.

My point is PCGS has probably done a decision matrix of Free vs. Pay, and they have made a decision based on what is good for the survival of PCGS.

Let's allow them and you and me to always have the ability of how we distribute or sell our stuff.

Government is really good at giving away other people's money; why not?, it is not thier money!

Your question had a good analogy for me when compared to what I am seeing as a major trend in the US. That is the Zombies and Kool-aide drinkers who are trying to empower others like the Obamanites and most every politician accross the spectrum, who thoroughly enjoy the ability to redistribute the fruits of my hard work without any input from me.

Given how reliable the pop reports are by now, perhaps they should pay us to use them.

I thought that PCGS was opening it up to everyone. Does it still block non members?
