Hello,
Just signed on to the registry and to these boards.I`m a good friend of PTVETTER at least up until I left a reply to his thread that is...image
I like nice coins!Morgans, walkers, buffaloes.mercs, and Oregon Trail commems to name a few.I can`t afford to collect sets of these, so I buy and sell mostly.Once in awhile,I get a gem that I can`t bring myself to sell.
How about a registry set for OREGON TRAIL COMMEMS instead of all commems?Maybe Booker T`s,Arkansas,Boones too? I have a nice bunch of Oregons, but a ms-67 Hawaii is out of my solar system!
Started a Full Step Jeff nickel set and proudly image proclaim that it will be all coins I make!(Slab meself!)I`m new to this but not to the whole coin scene.
Everyone will probably get tired of hearing from me real soonimage.Have lots to add and hope everyone has fun!

A dealer once asked me if I noticed any three-legged buffalos on the bourse,to which I replied,"...no,but I saw alot of two-legged jackasses..."

  • Welcome Vam. Start saving your Oregons. The pcgs set registry will include Classic Silver Commemorative Subsets: Hopefully including, the Oregons, Arks, Texas, Boones, W-Cs, and BTWs. This should be "up and running" this month, and possibly in the next week or so. Have Fun!

Jim has some of the nicest coins you will ever see! The jefferson full step nickels are real nice for the grade. SUPER eye appeal! Jim sends in raw coins and they make the grade. Most of the timeimage

I'm proud to have him as a friendimage

Welcome, Jim. We met briefly at the October PAN when I was working with Pat at his table. You have a great eye - I remember some of the coins you had that weekend. You should post some of your war stories sometime.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • Kranky,
Are you cranky?Just wondering... I will be working war stories into these boards, until the masses revolt and have me thrown out.image
Do you collect anything? I like and agree with your motto signature thingy. I wish other newbies would pay heed and not rush into the coin game, unfortunately some don`t...image

No, I'm really not cranky at all. I'm just the opposite.

I know it's weird but I don't really collect very much (except coin books). But I love talkin' about and lookin' at them.

The problem with newbies is that many times they don't even know what they don't know. When they get to a place like this, and find out how much there really is to know before spending serious money, for some it's too late. I can easily imagine a newbie seeing slabs and figuring they are all the same except for the name, and are easy prey for someone selling "bargains".

No offense to newbies out there!

  • I agree with you about the new ones! New ones please don`t take offense.Everyone starts out as a newbie, no matter how high of a horse they maybe riding now.I still have lots to learn, the important thing is not to lose sight of that!
