WTB Liberty/Indian gold coins for non-profit metal detecting club - CLOSED purchased PCGS XF45 1899-

I am seeking $10, $5, $2.50, and $1 gold coins at as close to melt as possible. Please post pictures of the coin offered and your price. I'll also rely on the community here to give me feedback as to the offers. I'll be looking for a single $10 gold coin, and then either a $5, or combination of lesser denominations. These coins are for prizes for a non-profit metal detecting club raffle for their Annual Hunt based in Kansas City. See below for more information. I'd hope the members of the board take into account for what this is intended, and get into the spirit with offers and view it as somewhat of a competition. In the past, we've been unable to come up with suitable offers for needed gold coins on this board. Quality of the piece is secondary to the pricing.

Mid-Western Artifact Society (MWAS) is a club founded in 1976 to bring together those interested in the metal detecting community in the area of Kansas City. The club is a non-profit, incorporated entity, registered within the State of Kansas. The club participates in community outreach projects including setting up displays at local locations to talk about the hobby, organizing information to promote proper digging / target recovery, works to fight legislation that targets the hobby unjustly, and volunteers to assist the local police in investigations where recovery of metallic evidence is necessary. To date, the club has NEVER turned down the police when they have required our assistance, always providing the manpower needed to assist in their investigations, in such cases involving murders, rape, and investigations related to police shootings to name a few. MWAS has also volunteered and helped recover numerous artifacts, working with archaeologists, at locations of historical interest before those locations were lost forever through urban development.

Membership in MWAS is growing by anywhere from 2 - 11 new members per month this year, thanks largely to a re-designed web site and online forum. The club is a member, as is every person in MWAS, of the FMDAC. Current membership is 69 members as of today, 5/21/08. This makes MWAS the LARGEST metal detecting club with membership all based at one location supporting the FMDAC in the country, and we continue to grow.

Our Annual Hunt is the way we give back to our members. In recognition of their time, support, and the amount of community outreach they do, all money left to the club through membership dues, raffles, Annual Hunt fees, and donations is rolled into a competition hunt in September, the end of our club year. We also use this opportunity to reach out to the future of the hobby, the children, by holding a FREE kids hunt with coins and prizes (coins, albums for collecting coins, toys, et cetera) made up entirely of donations open to any in the community, with our members providing detectors as well as assistance to the very young.

To encourage and as reward to members attending our monthly meetings, we offer a gold coin raffle that is drawn at the Annual Hunt. Members are limited to 4 tickets at each meeting they attend. 100% of those funds are used to purchase gold coins and awarded to those whose names are drawn. For many detectorists, this may be the only gold coin they ever own as finding one is very difficult for those that detect. It is for this raffle that this post is in reference.

Please help out if you are able. Coins do not have to be a mint-state quality piece by any means, but we would like to see as nice a coin as you are able to offer in common date varieties at as good a price as possible to help with our difficulties in maintaining the quality of our offerings for our club members with the price of precious metals at their current heights.

For reference, here are previous postings regarding our club from previous years:

2007 request
2006 request
2005 silver dime request and 2005 gold coin request

In the future, as we get closer to the hunt, I will have posts for anyone seeking to contribute to the kids hunt through donations, or to purchase any silver we still require and are not able to obtain through other means at our set price of 9x face this year. If you are reading this post, and wish to make a donation to either the kids hunt or the club itself, feel free to send me a pm.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Daren
Treasurer Mid-Western Artifact Society, Inc.
