Memorial Day Sale blowout at Rich Uhrich Rare Coins...

LongacreLongacre Posts: 16,717 ✭✭✭
I just got the email below annoucing the Memorial Day Sale blowout spectacular at Rich Uhrich Rare Coins. I have purchased from Rich in the past, and he is a dealer of the utmost integrity. I also like Rich's sense of humor-- the prices of the coins were not increased before the sale. image

Here is the email:

I'm happy to announce a sale starting immediately through May 30, 2008, that consists of 10% off any and every coin on my website. Please note that none of the prices were increased before the sale, either. You can see the coins at my website www.richuhrichcoins.com and you can easily order via the website. When we confirm the availability of the coins you order, we will also confirm the amount after the 10% discount.

Thank you for considering this offer.

If you wish to be removed from this list, please reply to this e-mail with the subject "Unsubscribe".

Agree. Should be on the BST forum.

I like everyone on this thread a lot, especially Rich and Longacre, but agree with RYK and others that this is toeing the spam foul line.

  • I would like to add the US Mint is currently having a pre-Memorial Day sale on it's platinum Proof coins. They are a bargain and currently priced less than what you would pay for a bullion eagle from a dealer, won't last long!

I like most of the people on this thread image (I especially like Baley), but I do not think that this is an egregious violation of forum standards. We know that Longacre has no financial relationship with Rich and is posting this so that other forum members may benefit. Were it not for his post, I would not know about the sale.

If this is spam, any post of any coin that is available on ebay, Heritage, or any dealer inventory is probably also spam. Some coins are not currently for sale but may eventually be offered so posting these is probably spam, too. Heck, that whole thread on the 08/Rev of 07 thread is probably full of spam. It can get ridiculous.

If someone draws attention to coins that they themselves are offering for sale on this forum, this is what I consider spam. If person A draws attention to person B's coins, so long as there is clearly no financial relationship between the two, I do not consider it to be spam. If Russ disagrees, I will reconsider my position.

I just got back from a very fancy lunch at an Italian restaurant, and I see that there are calls for my head. image I was just trying to provide a service to others on the board, and I have no financial relationship with the sale in the OP.

Seeing that I open every thread posted by Longacre (even if I wouldn't normally because the title doesn't interest me), I do not mind. If it was a member who doesn't offer material with substance I would see it as spam.

If you regularly contribute with solid numismatic material to the forum I think this is just fine.

Thanks for the heads up Longacre. I think some are being a little sensitive.

Call it spam or not. I don't care. If a nobody ran this, they would be called on it and told to move it to the BST board. But because it is 2 dealers/collectors who are liked by most forum members, it's OK. Not having a financial interest doesn't make it the thing to do. I've never advertised my coin books for sale on this forum. I go to the BST. This is really no big thing, just a little irritant that shows that major forum members can do what they want even if it's off topic or whatever.s Steve

Do you think if Longacre tells Rich to send him some interesting coins, because he can't decide what to buy, that Rich will still give him the 10% off image

Longacre is not a dealer (in fact, he sucks at selling coins image ). So what's the problem?

If you advertised your coin books for sale here, that would not be appropriate. If you alerted the forum that Rich had some cool books for sale, that would be just fine, and some would appreciate it.

Longacre is just trying to be the helpful forum member that he is... Is this spam? Tough call. but there is no specific coin that is being pushed... so I would say it falls short of spam.

Lets not loose perspective here and besides... I would not want to walk on the so-called thin ice as pictured by RYK as I am not the second coming of Christ and thus, unable to walk on water...
