I'm back without filling the 2 sen hole

In response to a couple of questions, yes, I am back in California, after an enjoyable, though rainy, cold and windy, stay in Japan.

The closest I came to visiting a coin shop was when my Yamanote Loop train in Tokyo passed through the Hammamatsucho Station, which is normally within walking distance from my favorite shop, but due to the wind and rain it wasn't feasible to stop. image

The first several days were spent shepherding my daughter and son-in-law through some of the "must see" spots for first timers, ending with a very disappointing visit to Tokyo where the rain and wind caused us to abort and head north without seeing any of the sites. image

I got in quite a bit of sightseeing in the region around the Beautiful Bride's home town, but none of the hotel gift shops had any coins. The cherry blossoms were magnificant, although in most areas they lasted only a couple of days due to the very unseasonable cold/wet/windy conditions.

On the bright side numismatically, I filled more than 20 holes in my "from circulation" date sets. image

Well then, it wasn't a complete numismatic wash! It's too bad the weather didn't cooperate but it sounds like you had a good time all the same.

Welcome back, Roy! I'm sorry to hear about the nasty weather, but it sounds like you had a chance to spend some time with your family, which is always great! Plus it's always a good day when you can say that you've filled 20 holes in any collection image Do you have some pictures of the cherry blossoms, by any chance?

In toronto, I live right next to a park where the city planted quite a few Japanese cherry trees and a few weeks ago they were blooming - it looked fantastic!

    Here's an example:
