Detroit sports talk radio want Jim Leyland gone

I think the fans are too impatient but with expectations so high for this season their frustration is understandable.

I love it, the the trillion dollar athletes show up and suck and the fans they blame the manager. We all saw that the Yankees problems were
Joe Torre. They fire him and now the Yanks are great...oh wait, nevermind.

Are we supposed to be sympathetic to guys making millions of dollars who don't even speak the freaking language who are batting
    .150?

Thats ok, the economy in Detroit is doing just fine!

Its true that the players need to perform but the bottom line its the Managers job to produce a winning club, they are hired to do that and if they dont then they are held accountable its as simple as that!

I know, they can't even beat the Devil Rays! Who would've thought they would end up being division race contenders (at least for now) considering they were the laughing stock of baseball for all their existance? Then again, the 1969 Mets were in the same boat before their magical season so I guess it's nothing new.

And perkdog, I believe the Devil Rays (sorry I can't seem to get used to just "Rays") are also challenging the BoSox for the division lead; you guys aren't just gonna sit there and take it, are ya? image

Remember Jimmy won a ring with the Marlins of all teams! I think he knows how to win. Look at those ERA's.....you can't blame that
    on the coach!

There is no doubt that the blame for this year's team falls squarely on the players or, if anything, on upper management for putting together a stacked lineup by sacrificing pitching and defense (you have to actually see this team play everyday to believe how bad the defense is).

That being said, Leyland received the lion's share of the credit in 2006 for taking the Tigers to the World Series. He was hailed as the "Wizard of Woodward". In reality, an incredible amount of things fell into his lap that year.

Let's face it, managing in the American League is not exactly rocket science. I'm convinced that someday it will come out that Leyland bet against the Tigers - that's the only real explanation for the decisions he makes. But that is not new to this year, he managed that way even through the success of 2006.

For my money, Leyland is one of the most over-rated leaders in professional sports. The guy's career record as a manager is still under .500 despite being 42 games over in the last 2 seasons alone.

And lest you think this is coming from a disgruntled fan, if I had my way, Wayne Fontes would have never been fired image.

If one gives Leyland credit for the 2006 season, then one should probably blame Leyland for folding against the 83 win Cards in the 2006 WS. That series was handed to Detroit on a silver platter and they squandered it.

Now that does not mean they should fire Leyland, as he certainly has done better than his immediate predecessors.

Oh, I don't know: I've heard both Brandon Inge and Sheff, and both speak English just fine.
