Proof or not proof that is the question

Here is an example of what I was speaking of in another thread dealing with Irish coins and the 10 schilling coin. Here is a seller stating that these
two 10 schilling coins are "a rare Ireland proof pair" in case. While indeed the Central Bank did release a double set of 10 shilling proof coins, which
are very rare, these are not those coins but un-circulated business strikes set into a green double case. Also I have no idea where he got the translation
of Éirí amac na casca 1916 as being what he is stating. The true translation "The Easter Rising 1916". At any rate this are not proofs and I find his listing
very confusing. At the bottom of his listing is my question and his response.

Not only is the listing confusing, but so is his response.

They don't look proof to me and they appear to have that CuNi haze, even though they are mostly made of silver.

Well I emailed him again so image he will not be happy as to what I said to him about the coins. I was very respectful and polite
and I hope he understood where I was coming from. With my luck I'll get reported and banned from ebay LOL!
  • Definately not the proof set. I have one of the double proof sets (below), and you are right, as always, that they are very very rare.
I think the one in the listing looks like it is set in foam, and the box dimensions are all wrong.
Well, looks like I picked a good night to stop by for the first time in a long time.

Hi John long time no see!!! Nice to see you hanging about! Yes the box is not the box these come in (I also have a set of these) I pointed out to the seller that it looked like black
foam and the size wasn't right. Also you'll notice the box is also missing the harp on the inside lid. The business strike coins of this series are also showing up in the green 1990
proof 1 púnt boxes and encapsulated in the 1 púnt capsules. The original proof 10 schilling box is made differently and also has a smaller coin hole because the coins were set right
into the box and not in a capsule with the black foam rings. The 10 shilling business strikes were never in a box. Oh well what can one do but make sure to pass on the proper info
here some poor seller is not going to get what they expected unless one knows the info on these coins.
