Here we go again, another call me crazy TTM, this time Hank Aaron, the Home Run King!! HE SIGNED SLE

After getting my Sandy Koufax rookie card back, I have decided to send my Hank Aaron rookie card off to Hank and see if I can get his autograph on it. I just got back from dropping it off at post office. I sent it Express Mail to Hank in care of the Atlanta Braves, as he is currently Senior Vice President for them. It is supposed to be delivered Monday by 3 PM. They are in town this week (Atlanta), so hopefully, it will be a quick turnaround one way or the other. I also included a SASE Express Mail for the return trip.

I've seen on a couple of different sites, that he does occasionally sign TTM, sometimes it looks secretarial, sometimes it looks real, so hopefully I'll get lucky. I decided that the rookie card itself unsigned didn't mean a whole lot to me other than for the monetary value, so I figured I had to risk getting it signed and then it would mean a great deal to me. Hopefully the fact that it is his rookie card, might get it through the initial staff screening.

If he won't sign, I hope at least his staff will take the time to return my card. I"ll keep the post updated when I know more.

Got the Aaron back today, I was so excited to open it, one day turnaround time, then I open the envelope, pull the card and AAAARRRGGGGHHHHH, he signed the sleeve, not the card. I'm resending tomorrow via Express Mail and will put the card in unprotected!!! Wish me luck again, so close, yet so far!!

WAIT - that looks like an Aaron secretarial to me. It's way too "good" for him lately. I would seriously compare it to other recent Aarons before wasting the rookie card.
  • I know this might sound like I am throwing a terd in the punch bowl, but I question if that is even Hank Aaron's sig.
  • AllenAllen Posts: 7,165 ✭✭✭
If the sig is legit, cut the section of the topload and build a custom cut card with an accetate signature.

....very good idea. I like it.

Mike, I think that's a secretarial sig. The first A in Aaron, usually is disconnected from the second a. THeres also a hook at the top and bottom of the H in Hank that swings outward.

I hope he signs the real card this time around. I love your courage in sending these cards out! Will certainly be an awesome collection when it's done!

Where did you find the information where McCovey was signing? Im looking to get his auto also. I have a sweet rookie that came back EVID of Trimming...though I dont see where its trimmed, it would be the perfect card to get signed.

But back to my original question...do you have a site where you find out where players are signing?

    Thanks

    Very cool, thanks!
  • I can't believe it has been around and no one took the time to thumb through the pages.
Lucky for you, you had the interest! CONGRATS!! I think i will have to start checking all my pages of a couple old baseball books...lol...
  • I think you might have dodged a bullet because that looks secretarial to me too... Maybe someone felt bad signing a pretty valuable card on behalf of Hank.

Yeah, it might have worked out in my best interest in the end for whomever to have signed the sleeve.

I'm working on the next plan of action in my head.

Just found out that Hank is doing a signing on June 28 in New York at Last Lick's. Signing being run by Steiner and will include a Steiner COA and hologram. Will cost $190.00 plus shipping for my rookie card. WOOHOO!! No way I'm sending it back out now and risking a secretarial. I'll just pay the $190.00 and be sure!!!

Since there seem to be some knowledgeable folks on this thread, anyone venture an opinion on the authenticity of this TTM signature I got when I mailed Aaron an index card back in 1989?
  • ernie11,

I used to set up at that show years ago. I mostly sold modern garbage, but always seemed to do alright. The best autograph guests they had back then were Fred Biletnikoff and Ed McCaffrey. It's a good little 3 day show, though.

I forget the name of the restaurant, but there's a great little mexican place in the mall that a few of us would order lunch from every Sunday........because the Chick-fil-a was closed on Sundays. image

    Ernie,

I don't think that Aaron 3x5 is authentic. His last name on it is completely different from any authentic example I've ever seen.

Oops, I just came back and read this thread and caught your reply. I'm sad to think this TTM is not a genuine sig, must've been someone in his office did it. Oh well, better start searching for a real one to collect...

If his name rhymes with Schurt Killing, I have yet another TTM that is not authentic. :-)

90% of all autographs are fake ? How did you come to that conclusion ?

Many articles and posts. The concensus puts the percentage at 70-90%. I believe the stars would be at the high end knowing the amount of ghost signing since the 40s and fake signings since the market bloomed.
