Holy cow! Things are getting dicey over the battle for the Sonics and whether they'll be playing in Seattle or Oklahoma City. Lester Munson has an excellent column on ESPN discussing what might happen if the Sonics DON'T move to Oklahoma City. Essentially, it's play in Seattle and face a $100 million dollar lawsuit or play in Oklahoma City and face a $100 million lawsuit.

<< <i>The agreements between Bennett and Oklahoma City include powerful language requiring the team to move to Oklahoma City. If the move is not completed, the agreements allow city officials to seek an injunction -- a court order requiring the team to move. And, if the team does not move, the agreements also permit Oklahoma City to seek "liquidated damages" from whoever owns the team. >>
Bennett and OKC knew exactly how this could unfold; that's why they made an iron-clad Contract.
I'm 99.9% positive the Sonics played their last game in Seattle. The fans will not support a lame duck team and the NBA doesn't want all of those empty seats being televised on a daily basis (ala '96 Oilers).
The residents of metro Seattle, which is not an accurate reflection of their sports fans, voted against a new stadium by 75%.
Sucks for the fans but their own neighboors, unfortunately, are to blame.
