What recent football box should I buy?

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and basically just getting back into cards. I collected in the late 80's, mostly football, before giving it up and went on a brief buying spree on eBay in 98 when I discovered I could purchase all my old favorites for pennies on the dollar of what they used to go for.
Well here I am 10 years later and I've got the itch again. I've wasted a couple twenties on some blasters from Wal-Mart and I realize I'm pretty much throwing my money away. So I'm ready to buy a hobby box off eBay.

So my question to you, what recent football box should I buy that will give me the most bang for my buck as far as enjoyment in opening (I'd like something with jersey or auto inserts) and also with potential of maybe pulling some key cards that will justify the money spent on the box?

Maybe, something a year or two older that wax prices have cooled somewhat on. Any ideas?

Try a box of Topps Chrome...they are nice cards and the Adrian Peterson rookie is nice. I am not sure on the # of inserts/autos, etc. Could also try Bowman Chrome which I believe are a little cheaper. Do a search on ebay and check out some of the cards first.

    The chrome stuff IS pretty.

  • If you are going to buy the retail blasters go to Target to get them. They are generally better.

If you can find them 2007 Topps Chrome is the best blaster out there. Aside from the great looking cards, blue retail refractors and Peterson. These were the only way to get the Michael Vick card which still brings close to 100.00 on Ebay.

I'm itching to open another box and I thought I would once again look to the board for advice. I want something between 98-06. I prefer to see backgrounds in the pictures vs a blanked bankground. After the Bowman Chrome I think I would prefer something a little less shiny. Any recommendations?

Is there a site where I can easily browse photos of each set so I can pick something I like aesthetically? I've been out of the hobby for 15 years so I don't know one what a lot of recent releases look like.

    Thanks for the help

here's a site that shows some autos and GU from those years. Upper Deck always has great photography on the cards.

Found this with a google search
