WOW! Sent in an single card 5-day Express and a 21 card 45-day Special and guess which one was done first... You guessed it. An interesting mix. Really thought the Munson OPC was borderline PSA 10 and a cinch PSA 9. Guess I'll have to look again. The Schmidt, Guerrero and Dean were out of SGC 86's and I was looking for 8's. Got bonuses with the Schmidt and Guerrero. I have no idea what I missed on the Lidstroms or Smiths, though...

  • Scott, ALWAYS look again at 78 OPC especially.

I opened four packs, pulled a SCREAMIN' Eddie Murray RC.
Centered, with the whitest borders I have EVER seen on
an opc Murray RC, cut was not razor sharp, but very clean
    for a 1978...the grade?

    YEP--u guessed it---"Evidence of trim" !!!

Since the cuts come just a slight bit different on some
OPC, especially 1978 (And I am not talking about SHORT
cuts, I am talking about normal cuts), they have to look
at the card a little better.

Just because an OPC is razor sharp doesn't mean its
    trimmed or sheet cut.

Almost forgot....had an on-line invoice view on one of
my OPC invoices with a 1978 OPC Dave Concepcion.
Same thing, pulled from a pack, they graded it GEM MINT 10 !

When the package came to me.....yep...they "UN" graded it
    to "Evidence of trim".

    Tony:

Maybe they'll "UN" grade my Munson up to a PSA 9 because for the life of me, I cannot think of any reason the card should be an 8. It was absolutely a stunner! Considering that I was pretty much on the mark on the rest of the invoice, I'm figuring maybe the grader treated it as a Topps as the cut was only mildly "rough" and could've been confused if he wasn't looking at the back. Anyway, it'll get cracked and resubmitted.

Well, there goes my diabolical plan to corner the 91 pro set John Randle market. Thanks for nothing Scott!!! image

    Nice sub man, congrats.

    Nice sub!

If it's OPC you almost have to have rough edges for them to believe that the card is not sheet cut.
Grading the OPC's seems to be a crap shoot. I had a 36 card, 78 opc sub pop yesterday. Very strange results. Seems like the cards that I thought were winners didn't grade very high, and a couple that I just threw in to show that the others were better, came back 9's. I had a very nice 78 Dawson (I thought 9/10) come back Evidence of Trim. You guessed it. Smooth edges.

Um excuse me Joe, I already have the John Randle market cornered. I think I own, or have owned 9 of the 16 that were in the pop report (not sure what it's at now). I still own a handful. Just sold one the other day for $35. I remember getting $125 for them a year ago.

Put the Munson in a bulk vintage sub, and you'll get your 9 or 10. I don't if it's how the modern cards compare to vintage or if it's just a matter of avoiding the newbie modern graders, but mixing a few modern cards with older stuff always seems to work.

Also, my results from modern $5 special submissions have been by far the least consistent. I've pretty much decided that if the card has much value, I'll go ahead and stick it in a 100 card $6 sub even if it qualifies for the special just to increase the odds of it being graded accurately.
