Does he still have the wax discount pack boxes?? loose packs that is??
<< <i>The store is really nice, in terms of organization, presentation, etc. But he is always a little bit high on any given one item. However, no one else can you get so many cards at once.

Yeah, he has an entire discount room. Bunch of 80's stuff 4/$1 I think. He has a graded room too.

<< <i>I think they'll find that ebay vintage buyers are very hesitant to buy cards with stock photos and no actual scans. >>
It's funny, I feel like Rob's PR guy here - what can I say, he's a good guy. I asked him that question because I don't buy anything other than commons on beckett.com because there's no scans...and I said that I would bet that he'd have trouble on eBay because people couldn't see the cards. He said that with that big an inventory, there is no way to even begin scanning everything. They said that they've always made good if a customer wasn't satisfied with the grade on the card (e.g if they say NM, it's pretty much NM and if you don't think so, they'll exchange yours for another one). He said that he's had very little trouble moving inventory without scans - and since the bulk of his business is commons, it's no wonder.

Hmm. I just checked out their ebay store and clicked on 1989 and see a slew of 1989 Topps commons listed at $1.09 each (+$2 s/h).

him that were all 9s and 10s. (1980s)
I cannot see the strategic-plan behind the EBAY move, though.
I know the guy is fairly smart, but EBAY can sell anybody an
empty bag.
His BIG presence may very well help smaller sellers, if he attracts
a crowd.

My best guess - watching all of the BIG outfits uploading massive inventories - is
that the "stores in core" (SIC) announcement is right around the corner.
Store rents will likey rise, which is fine if the items appear in CORE. In 2005 and
a little while in 2006, stuff flew out of the stores; the store items were in the
regular search.
Best-Match will favor the BIG sellers, but the little sellers should still get some crumbs.
buy.com has already run-off much of the tiny fashion-seller population. Maybe that
is the plan in ALL categories.
waste of time as far as i am concerned to upload all that stuff and have no pic.
Pic coming soon.
yeah

<< <i>Anyone else think $9 to ship a box of cards is a little high? I was interested in some of their 90's junk wax but for $9 shipping I'll pass. >>
Not necessarily trying to defend here, but how much do you think they should charge? If the typical box of wax is 3 lbs packaged, here are the typical cross-country rates for the various carriers:
USPS Priority Mail $11.50
USPS Priority Mail flat rate $9.80
USPS Parcel Post $8.12
FedEx Ground $10.78
UPS Ground $10.21

Agreed, never have seen a picture of any raw stuff that they had for sale on Ebay.
$9 to ship a box of wax isnt bad.
<< <i>If you need a few "1 cent" commons from some 80's junk sets where are going to find them locally and how much time do you want to spend looking for them. If you can go to one place with a list, and have a guy spend 10 minutes moving around 5000 count boxes pulling out all your cards, it should be worth more than a dime to you for this convenience. You're really not paying for the cards. You're paying for all the time it took to put everything in order, and all the time it takes to pull and process your order. Sure you can get them cheaper if you visit your local landfill, but there's a good chance the cards won't be in order and they'll smell bad. >>
sportlots.com and naxcom are great places to go for a cheap common. I filled a bunch of 80s want lists off of sportlots for about .18 a card.

To get a card from them and not like it and have to send it back IMO is a waste of my time.

there have been some other comments that I agree with SHIPPING HAS GONE UP. $9 isn't that bad.....if you try to ship a 792 card set now a days you'll probably still pay a bit more if you charge $9. I've taken a hit a number of times selling items that couldn't fit in the $8.95 priority flat rate boxes...

LOTS of folks say that.
It seems that instead of trying to pick out the worst cards to send,
he picks the best ones. Or, maybe they are all just fairly nice ones.
If EBAY is smart, they will let burbank upload all of that stuff for FREE.
Come Monday, EBAY will need all of the PSers they can find to prop the place up.
