Speaking of late 90s, I could really use the 1997 and 1998 Donruss and Score sets to complete those runs.

Mike - I bought a bunch of Fleer that year - I really liked the design.

It's got to be one of my favorite all-time designs. I never pulled a card like that. Very cool.

Every few months or so, I but a couple of boxes from Steve just to try and pull McGwire stuff. Some common, some inserts, other stuff if I really get lucky.

    I bought the following:

1998 Fleer Series I (1 box) - pulled the Vlad, fun box to open for the money, I may buy a few more.
1998 Fleer Series II (2 boxes) - not much, a few inserts...lots of repeats on the insersts, kinda strange
1998 Topps Gold Label (2 boxes) - not much, pulled 1 Red Label (Henry Rodriguez /100, pulled a lot of doubles here, as well, especially with the Class 2 and Class 3 parallels (Andruw Jones and Henry Rodriguez were popular!)
1999 Finest Series I (2 boxes) - Junk, junk, junk. 3 of the cards in each pack in one box were miscut. A total of 3 refractors in 2 boxes. It was almost as if Topps repacked a bunch of left over junk and put them in the box....terrible waste of time opening these.
1997 Stadium Club - lots of inserts, the best one pulled was a Derek Jeter Patent Leather Die Cut card...fun box to open for $15

I remember when those Fleer inserts came out and were popular, then they put out the Fleer Tradition set in 2000 and people went crazy for it. Then Topps stole the idea and made Heritage in 2001, and of course stole all the thunder because of Topps' rich history. It really was Fleer that started the trend of affordable cool throwback sets that look and feel like the classics.

I also remember busting a ton of that Topps Gold Label stuff at around $10 a pack, and being confused because every card had so many variations. What a confusing era for cards. Tons of sets were complete head-scratchers: Gold Label, Topps Laser, Topps Tec, Flair Showcase (Row 0,1,2,3????), UD Ionix, Fleer Metal, Fleer Focus, etc.......... No wonder people lost interest in the hobby during that period.

Nice walk down memory lane. Thanks Mike.
