Home Trading Cards & Memorabilia Forum

A very big thank you to Griffins (Anthony).

Too many times we see threads devoted to the bad guys on this board and in the hobby. Well this is not one of those. I just wanted to publicly say thank you a fellow CU member/collector who is not only very generous with his time and knowledge, but with some rare cards I needed as well.

I'm sure i'm not setting the CU world on it's ear by telling you all what a nice guy Anthony is, but when so many threads are started lately about lack of communication and service from sellers right here on our own BST forum, I felt the need to let everyone know about my great experiences working with Anthony. When I first started my T218 set Anthony PMed me a with wealth of valuable information and offered me cards from his eBay store with ridiculous discounts. Recently I saw that he had a few more cards in his store that would help my set, and when I PMed him about wanting to buy them, he sent them to me free of charge.

His collection is so incredible that I don't think I will ever be able to return this good deed with PSA cards for him, but whether it's helping him with next year's Topps heritage set, or helping another collector out with cards of which I have extra, I will try my best to reciprocate. Thank you very much Anthony for your time, knowledge, and helping me get closer to completing my set.

Let me add to that. Julen sent me a real nice stack of 73's that I received yesterday. They are in wonderful condition and didnt charge me a penny. Last year he also sent 2/3 of a 1980 OPC baseball set. I only wish I could come close in returning the favor to him. Giving is contagious and I will also try and pay forward at the very least.
Thanks a bunch Julen. I did receive the cards in the mail yesterday.

Great story...thanks for being one of the good guys Anthony and Julen!

Anthony has been a friend of mine for about 4 yrs now - we've met here in San Antonio and he's immensely generous - tops in the hobby.

It's important CU keeps people like him around.

His collection is one of the better in our circle of friends here and he's a class act.

    Thanx for sharing Nick.

It's always a bit of a shock to bring up the page and see your name in a thread title...

Thanks for the kind words guys, but the reality is that virtually everyone that has chimed in on this thread has done many more good turns for me than I could ever repay, no matter how hard I try. Nick sent me a few Heritage I needed, Marc a '41 Goudey that was very tough, and Wolfbear, who just to hang out with is reason enough to make the trek to the National every year, sent me a really nice high end card last Xmas.

For all the talk about scams and backroom deals and all the other BS, the truth is that there are a lot of kind, generous, and knowledgeable people in this hobby, and I feel lucky to be allowed to even hang out.

yes, anthony is a class act: his knowledge of all-things-unopened and displayable is something i trust and value; i always enjoy reading his replies to my oft-asked questions about obscure items (especially on the net 54 boards)--and how can we not mention the photos of his amazing unopened pack and display box run which never get old either (he is my unopened pack and display box mentor!!)--but believe it or not, i'm still waiting for a reply to the last three emails i sent him dating back to early february!!!image

That's nothing. One time Anthony sent me a vial of tears from his eyes.

I applied them to my genital warts and the lesions miraculously cleared up immeadiately ...

I saw him walk into a bar and drain an entire keg of draft beer in one shot. When he had to urinate the runoff formed Napa Valley.

Dave, I think that is a bit of a stretch. Everyone knows the place most deserving of urination is the San Fernando Valley.

Anthony is a world class individual. Many of us count him as a close friend. He would do anything for his friends and he knows how to nurture friendships. I know that I feel fortunate to have such a close friend and fellow collector as Anthony and I also know that many of you can say the exact same thing. Friends like Anthony are pure gold.
