Topps salesmen sample question

I just purchased a 1982 Topps 6 card uncut sheet with a Ripken rookie on it. The seller said it is a salesman sample/store display. My question is this, did Topps use store displays or saleman samples in the 80's? I know they did in the 50's and 60's, but I had never heard of them after that. Anyone seen ads or displays for Topps in the 80's?

My thought is that this was cut from a full sheet, but why would you cut just 6 cards? And does anyone have a pic or a link to a pic showing an uncut sheet with Ripken on it?

Any feedback and help is much appreciated, thanks!

Is there a letter on the back where the number would be? I don't know about 1982 but 1978 had a 6 card set on the bottom of the box, they did the same thing in baseball and hockey in the 1980s.

To be honest, I don't know, it has not arrived yet. I did find an uncut sheet that had sold on Ebay and the same cards were around the Ripken, so I think it is safe to assume that this was cut from a sheet.

I remember in the 70s that they inserted 6 card sheets in the "Dynamite" magazines geared toward kids. They were 3 high 2 wide, with a staple hole and a crease where they attached to the magazine, right between rows 1 and 2 of the 3. They may have made it to the 80s also. They would have normal backs (no ads), and would be part of regular sheets. Salesman samples typically had set info and advertising on the backs, making them much more rare.

This is taken from ebay and is what I was talking about in the last post, notice the staple hole under the Lopes:

This came from a Kids Dynamite magazine back in 1976,This was an insert inside it,The shee has a Guidry Rookie and the last card in the set Lopes( Card 660).The sheet is in very shape with a bad corner on the guidery card and of course the crease where the cards were taken out of the magazine.....The cards have no back damage.......

I have 2-3 6 card sheets from the 80's. I want to say they were an insert from a magazine but it definitely wasn't a kids mag (Dynamite). One of the sheets is an '82, I believe one is an '83 Fleer.

I remember my aunt giving me a 6 card sheet of 82 Topps when I was a kid. It came from some Mag.

Interesting replies guys. I never knew they still inserted them into magazines in the 80's. I remember getting them in the Dynamite magazine when I was a kid. Maybe these are not sheet cut after all?

yeah, its from the Dynamite magzine. If I'm not mistaken, there is also a Phil Garner card on this sheet as well.

Can't confirm the magazine other than being for kids.
