69 Down--1962 ABC Colorstars Finished in PSA 8 or Better

It almost never works this way where I buy a whole set that is PSA 8 or better, but Jeff Rosen who I have bought some 56 topps baseball cards from in the past and whom I almost bought some 55 Barbers Tea, e-mailed me and asked me if I would like to buy his 1962 ABC Colorstars set. After a brief negotiation we were done--number 69. What attracted me to this 10-card set in addition to that every card was PSA 8 or better(6 PSA 9s and 4 PSA 8s for a 8.6 Set Rating--#1 on the PSA Set Registry) was it had an Elvis Presley in PSA 9 and that five of the cards were pop 1s with none higher. I will let the set rest at this level. While I intended to only work on 10 non-sport sets at a time, my friend Jay Wolt has had different ideas and has been sending me a large number of nrmt-mt sets--mostly from the 1930s. I probably have 30 or so in various stages of completion. In my next submission to PSA I will send the rest in. I would estimate that non-sports could ultimately make up 10% of my completed sets.

The goal remains 100 vintage or semi-vintage sets in PSA 8 or better. As I posted recently, over 30 are sets are down to seven cards or less. I appreciate all the help I can get from fellow collectors.

    Jim,

The addition of more non-sports is probably not a bad thing. Their popularity will never be that of the major sports, but they probably have a pretty big upside as the registry continues to expand. Great job and keep it going!

    Frank,

And they are affordable. I have been able to buy psa 9 cards from 1901 for under $20 per card. If non-sports takes off I am well positioned.

Congrats, Jim. Do you have any pictures of your cards from this set? I do not even know what they look like just from the name...

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

No pictures--I used to know how to post a scan on Net 54 but I don't know how to on here.

There are some very expensive non-sport sets try sinking your teeth into the 1959 Fleer Three Stooges. Since we started tracking values for this area of collectibles I have been pleasantly surprised on them.

    Hey Bobby,

You are correct and I look forward to VCP tracking these sets in greater numbers. There are, however, a whole host of prewar and postwar sets that do not get a lot of attention where the cards are cheap.
