Presidential sets - Open or Closed - Does it matter?

Does the fact that so many sets are closed hurt the collector interest?

I am aware that I have had many of my sets closed as well.
Should we all open them up to improve interest in the Presidential Dollars?

What say you...............

The street price seems to follow the Registry so I say no. I don't know how much more interest I can afford.

Steve, that's one of the stupidest posts I have yet to see here on the PCGS SET REGISTRY FORUM. Did you stumble on to this or did you intentionally try to break the recond.

I do not think it matters if a lot of sets are opened or closed. The set will attract attention because it is the current thing. The mint will promote it far more than a bunch of open sets on the PCGS registry ever could. The fact is, the US Mint is the one most motivated to create interest so they can dump all their overstock, not collectors trying to recruit new collectors.

Available for viewing is what I meant.

I just had a couple of friends that mentioned that viewable sets might encourage more collectors to join in.
Or maybe it means the same 20+ guys will do the presidential dollar sets alone for years to come.

How did it look with the State quarters in the early years?

I agree that there is a plus side to viewable sets but for the collectors it isn't so good as the price of coins needed to finish sets are far more costly if the world knows you really need them. I think I have most all of my completed sets as viewable.

i think we should open the sets just b/c i think it would be cool to be able to see the best of the best (jim and justin sets, for example). we serious pres collectors can really appreciate the efforts and success of the best out there. you guys should be proud of your achievements in this series, and it would simply cool, like i said, just to be able to be in awe of these sets, and hope that someday i will be as good of a collector as them.

oh, btw, quick questions...is the news i heard that this is the last year of all words on the edges? if so, do any of you think this will increase the value of 2007-08 pres. dollars?

Thanks and as for me. I will open up my sets soon...

As for the edge lettering.
2009 is a change in edge lettering only.
The IGWT will be removed the reat will remain on the edge plus some stars added.

So, Extra Stars or short star varieties are coming.
This is like the Large Cent era.
Coins with extra berries or 1/000 ect.

My All Varieties set is and has been wide open so I'm curious as to where the prices will head. These things cost 7 cents a peice to make and I already have to pay a buck for one. How much more should you or anyone else be asking???

How much? This one is worth WAY more than a buck.....
Pres Dollar worth more than a buck.
