Medevil Petrus Coin ID

Can anyone identify this coin which may be medevil in age. It is silver, slightly larger than a U.S. quarter in size and thin. Has an immage of Peter, I presume, sitting on a throne with some holding a swor? standing to his left. I believe PETRUS is written on right edge. I can't recognize immage on reverse but I see VIIIo written on top edge. Thanks for your help.

It's a Papal States grosso. Link
  • This is a good coin! A grosso as BS stated, issued by pope Innocent VIII (1484-92) in both Rome and the city of Macerata - below the saints (st. Peter and St.Paul) it should say either ROMA or MACE - that would determine the city of issue. The Macerata variety is the better of the two, but they are certainly both worth keeping.

B498 (Rome) or B513 (Macerata) in Berman's "Papal Coins" where both coins are pictured.

Thank you so much for the information. It does say Roma at the bottom. I would have never have identified the Pope or approximate date as that area is quite worn.
