Home World & Ancient Coins Forum

Probably a stupid question.

I was wondering why ancient and world coins are listed in the same forum. Not all collectors of foreign collect ancient, and vice versa. Correct me if I am wrong, but they probably should be separate.

Perhaps it has to do with PCGS not encapsulating ancients... Perhaps it's the fact that there isn't enough traffic on this board to warrant the separation into two...

I quite like the arrangement, since I know very little about ancients and every time any of those posts come up, I learn something new image
  • Why is traffic on the darkside lighter than that on the lightside??? With more varieties of coins to collect, have questions about, etc, one would think that there would be more traffic here.

Fewer people posting over here. We also have regulars here who are scattered around the world so the thread responses are not concentrated in time but can take longer to develop.

Splitting the board into 2 has been discussed before by members here but PCGS did not seem to be interested.

traffic may be relatively light here and on the NGC forum, but other darkside forums have very active traffic.

I would imagine, as others have said, that it's a matter of traffic. I don't mind though. I learn a lot from threads unrelated to my collecting interests.

I don't understand why the dark side is so undervalued. Can U.S. coin populations be lower than ancient coins. Unless I'm way off (it has happened once before), ancients should have rareity going for them. Rareity seems to be the catalyst for prices of U.S. coins, currency, stamps, ect.

They also have a small collector base ,and with new technology a boat load may be found any day. That could crush the value of a seemingly rare piece.

This isn't a Medals forum either but some of us do post here.

Ancient coins are, by definition, foreign coins. I could be wrong, but I believe there was no coinage used in what is today the US, prior to the arrival of Europeans.
