Attempt To Inform Card Buyers About The "DSR System"

An EBAY seller posted this on the buyer board. It explains the
function of DSRs.
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
I am wanting to try and educate buyers on the DSR ratings, as I feel what ebay specifies in the rating descriptions is misleading and inaccurate. Ebay states to the buyer that a 4 rating is good, but then tells the seller the 4 rating is very bad, actually placing them in the bottom 10% of all sellers. Below is the first attempt to educate the buyer.
Education on eBay Detail Star Rating – How it affects the Seller
On the eBay Detailed Star Rating page, the description will make it appear that a 4 rating you may leave for a seller is good. Therefore, you may leave a 4 rating thinking you gave the seller a good but not perfect rating. If you ever consider leaving a 4 or lower rating for a seller, I hope you will read this and understand the impact it has.
eBay Management considers a 4 to be a very bad rating, and if a seller receives enough ratings of 4 (or below) – eBay will take negative actions on the seller. Listed below are only some of the negative consequences that will happen to a seller if you leave a rating of 4 or below in ANY of the 4 categories. Please note that the 4 rating you may give, is lower than the 4.3, 4.5, and 4.6 ratings listed below that cause negative impact to a seller.
1. If the seller’s rating falls below a 4.5 , the seller will be kicked out of the Powerseller program or not allowed to join.
2. If the seller’s rating falls below a 4.3 (depending on the ebay site), all of their items will be disadvantaged in the eBay best match search. Their items will now be at the end of all search results causing little to no sales. For example – an item that ends in a few minutes, may show up on page 55 of the search results rather than page 1, due to their 4.3 rating. No one will even see the listing, and it will hurt their business greatly. This 4.3 average is on their 30 day average, so that one 3 or 4 rating can hurt their average greatly!
3. According to eBay management, any seller that has a 4.3 rating or lower is considered to be in the bottom 10% of all sellers. I know this seems ridiculous, but it is true. They tell the buyer that a 4 rating is good, but that same 4 rating will place the seller in the bottom 10% of all sellers. See this link for details on the percentages: http://www2.ebay.com/aw/core/200710101359442.html
4. eBay raised their seller fees recently, but they give a small discount to “good” sellers. If a seller’s rating falls below a 4.6, they will not be eligible for any discount at all on the fees they pay monthly to eBay. Fees can be quite expensive, and if you are a good seller, it is nice to get a slight discount.
As you can see, that 4 rating you may give, is lower than the 4.3, 4.5, and 4.6 ratings listed above that cause a very negative impact to a seller’s business. Even though eBay makes you think the 4 rating in any category you give to a seller is good, it is in fact very bad for the seller.
Therefore, if the seller did well and you would like them to stay on eBay, I recommend giving them only 5 star ratings, as anything lower than a 5 actually hurts them greatly. If you feel they deserve a 4 or below rating in any category, I hope you will contact them before leaving this rating. Stars are optional, so if they have done a good job as a seller – please leave 5 stars, or no star rating at all. If they have done what you consider a very bad job, please at least contact them first and allow them to communicate, before leaving that bad 4 or lower rating.
