What is required??

I have a question regarding the candidate for the "Coveted You Suck Award". What is required to acheive such mythic status? Is this decided by a jury of our peers on some BOD on Mt. Olympus?

The attached coin is graded 1912 PGCS PR64RB. In my opinion, it will upgrade someday soon much higher. I was found by my friend "Hawkeye".

I know, it's not a Matte VDB sold for $12 off the rack as a low-grade mint state coin, but not a bad find.

Does "Hawkeye" deserve any recognition for his efforts?

Go ahead, hit me with both barrels and tell me what it really takes if I'm way off, being the rookie.

A bigger photo of both sides would help a lot more.
Then does it hit the 1000 to one ratio?

  • The bigger photo sure would help, but the one I did actually took an me an hour. For a photo on both sides of the coin, so to speak, see my collection at http://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/publishedset.aspx?s=43537&ac=1. Smaller scale, but it's not the photo that is my point.

If 1000 to 1 is the true "You Suck" ratio, then this is not in the ballpark. It's a Matte PR64 Lincoln to will grade up 2 points. Maybe 15K in real money. The interesting thing about it in my mind is that right now, Lincoln matte people are looking all over (and buying at premiums) Matte Proofs, and this sits under their nose at a major auction and the 'best' numismatic minds walk by without a sniff. That was my compliment to the guy who recognized it.

1000 to 1 is a tough call. I've got two being looked at that may meet those perameters. I "may suck" one of these days soon. And one another level, I challenge anyone to build a complete (9 coin QUALITY) matte proof collection in 10 weeks on a limited budget (maybe 2 sets, actually, but we will see). So I may actually "suck" for another reason; time will tell. My freind, who is good with numbers, looked at the matte numbers, and calculated, and told me a that a set of creating a full set of matte proof Lincolns of high (PR66 and above) was in the vacinity of over 1,000,000 to 1. So for all those people who have done so, kudos. I assume the same logic applies to some of the older collectables. Technically speaking, these 10 people (or so) really suck!!! Mr. Blay, with all due respect, you really suck (numerically speaking) : )

I'd like to hear your story, though, LindeDad, because it sounds like a whopper behind the question I innocently asked. What did you do? C'mon..... image

And what about the other recipients of the "Coveted You Suck Award"?

Are people willing to share there stories??

I have never even come close but I sure like to hear the stories. All I ever do is over pay and enjoy the coins.

Not having all the info, I would say that just finding a nice coin that could possibly upgrade is not worthy of the honor. Generally YOU SUCKs' are handed out to those who knowingly purchase a coin for far below its market value and have it slabbed into a confirmed grade, Variety, Error, etc., worth significantly more than the original owner ever expected.
