The young Yankee hurlers...

Remember, for every John Smoltz, there are 100 Lance Dicksons.

When you have a chance to trade one of them for the premier pitcher in the league, you do not hesitate.

<< <i>The problem with your supposition is that you're assuming it was just a trade of talent. First off, it's way too early to call the results on this one. But what is abundantly clear is that adding $25 million a year to the payroll, when you already have BY FAR the largest operating loss in all of baseball, does not seem to be a great economic move.

But the part I don't get is that I'm under the assumption that the Yanks did offer them up, or some comibination thereof. At that time the Twins seem uninterested in the offer and ultimately wound up with lesser players, IMO, then they could have gotten from the Yanks. Only time will tell how all this will play out. >>

agreed. I've said it elsewhere too, but I'm glad the Red Sox passed up Santana too and his $150 million or whatever GUARANTEED contract. I believe Minn. just didn't want to have to ever face Santana so they took a lesser deal and moved him to the NL. Either NYY or BOS offers would have greatly helped that team.

Who's to say the Twins didn't end up with the better players, leaving the "lesser" players in NYimage

I think Yankee fans who were crying that Boston was just pushing up the bid for Santana can now understand that
Buchholz, Lester, and Ellsbury are better then Hughes, Kennedy, and Cabrera. The Twins knew it, Red Sox fans knew it,
but Yankee fans were understandably bias in their thinking. I'm not knocking the Yankee fans, I'm just saying that they were
all complaining that their kids were so much better then ours.

but Boston never offered up all three unless it never made the media

Man, look at all these Sox fans actin' like it's all said & done. Even though Hughes & Kennedy have struggled, I am glad we did not trade one of them (plus Milkey who is having a fine year) for Santana. Hindsight is always 20-20 and who knows maybe in a year or two we will wish we had pulled the trigger, but we've been burnt too many times (Brown, Johnson, et al).

The bottom line is when the rubber hit the road the Yanks choose to remain true to their relatively new concept of drafting, developing and keeping young prospects and that's a GREAT thing!

If the Twins knew it like you say then why didn't they make a deal with your team?

Also, I want to know exactly who would be playing center field for us if we had made this trade? No one seems to have a response for that.

LOL Now THAT is one funny statement! Good conspiracy theory but the Yanks were very serious about Santana but were not going to give in to the Twins ridiculous demands. And who says it wasnt the other way around? Do I remember the Yankees making an offer for Santana before the Bosox? I dont remember but its always a game between both teams.

"The answer was in the Patriots eyes. Gone were the swagger and c0ck sure smirks, replaced by downcast eyes and heads in hands. For his poise and leadership Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."

Very true. I remember people saying the same thing about Wang 2-3 years ago. Of course there is no guarantee with any young pitcher but the Yankees have hopes that these two guys will pull through. They both have the tools to be successful. Only time will tell!

Because Theo wouldn't allow it to happen. But we kept hearing in the press that the Red Sox were in the lead with the possible deal
of Lester and Coco Crisp or Ellsbury to Minnesota. The Yankee fans kept insinuating that Kennedy and Cabrera was much better then
Lester and Crisp. Then when Hughes was brought into the equation, Yankee fans were screaming that Hughes and Melky were much
better then Lester and Ellsbury. There is no way that anyone should scream that Hughes and Melky is that much better then
Lester and Ellsbury. Anyway, Theo and Cash didn't bite. I think both teams made out better by not getting Santana. He is going to
be way too expensive and he will have a Pedro Martinez arm in a year or two.

This sure seems to be a lot of bickering about a pitcher who is 3-2....
