Opinion Requested: Do These PSA Labels Appear Odd To You?

Hi guys,

Ebay seller n8sautographs has, among others, these cards up for auction/BIN:

1. 1933 Goudey Sports King Bobby Jones Golf PSA 8
2. 1934 Goudey Lou Gehrig PSA 7
3. 1948 Leaf Babe Ruth PSA 8
4. 1948 Leaf Ted Williams PSA 8
5. 1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle PSA 6 (MC)
6. 1952 Topps Ed Mathews PSA 6
7. 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth PSA 6

Is it just me or do the PSA labels appear odd? Your opinions are requested and appreciated. The seller is in L.A. Maybe I can see if he is willing to schedule a meeting for me to look at the cards.

It looks like he screws around with the photo editing settings too much to make the cards look brighter.
  • The labels look off centered???

    I cannot tell.

    The scans are diddled with.

I mentioned a few weeks ago:

"Look for scans of slabs that are cropped too close."

This makes it impossible to search for screwdriver marks on the edges.

"Look for scans of slabs on white backgrounds."

This makes it impossible to see the tracks of the snowman.

    ..................

Some of the cards listed have been the targets of the recent switcheroos
from the Hernandez gang; San Jose, San Diego, North and South Carolina.
They have been using Craig's List. Their victims tend to use EBAY to pass
    on the pain.

AS I STATED ABOVE: I cannot tell if these are good to go, or NOT.

I would NEVER buy such cards - without touching them first - from an unknown
    EBAY seller.

Memory Lane has nicer stuff WITHOUT the risk.

  • did you see the other stuff this guy has up for sale and the completed sales? 6 figures. why would he risk fake cards?
  • Just my opinion , all of them except 2 look ok. the 2 that look funny are the 34 Gerhig and the 48 Leaf Ruth, but as Cd said editing can make things look funny. I would ask if he could send scans of the front and back to you by email, to get a better look and also be able to blow up the scans better , plus what is their return policy or guarantee that everything is legit (from their feedback they deal in some high end/high dollar items) Once again just my opinion.

I like the Mathews and the Williams , wish I would have hit the lotto , have always liked the 48 Leaf and the 52 Topps.

"...why would he risk fake cards? "

    //////////////////////////////////////

Not any indication that he would.

There will come a time when it will be very difficult for honest-sellers
    to "know for sure."

PSA should profit nicely from the "check-ups" that they will be asked to
do prior to items changing hands. Same thing on the coin side; PCGS.

    I think they're all fine.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

If you blow some of the cards up BIG, they look legit.

Also, the cards seem to be graded about right.

I cannot tell anything about the slabs from the blowups.

Ditto at one time or another , even the most honest seller/dealer gets taken and doesn't realize it till someone with more knowledge catches it, have a few 84 Fleer update fakes that I bought for resale back in the late 80's/early 90's that keep smiling at me to remind me of my stupidity /
lack of knowledge. If you stay in the hobby/business long enough you will get some education and it hurts/ dollars burnt to a crisp. Anyone need a 1856 flying eagle penny ( I swear I thought it was real) . I'm still looking for that nice lady that sold me that penny 27 years ago. LOL

    Yup.

I hate to tell stuff on myself, but...........

Last week, I listed a collectible item that turned out to be a forgery.
And, it was in the field that I know the most about. I did not carefully
examine the item before I listed it as part of a like-item lot. I did not
look the item up in my forgery guides; just scanned it and threw it up.
(I bought it from an experienced seller. It was not real expensive and
I have no idea if the seller knew it was forged.)

About four-hours after the item listed, I got an email from an expert.
I pulled the item immediately. I did the research I should have done
before I listed the item, and sure enough the thing was bogus.

I would NEVER intentionally list something that was bad. BUT, it can
    happen to anybody.
