McCready says she can't refute anything in the news story about her and Clemens

Clemens might as well drop the defamation suit against his former trainer unless he really wants all of this stuff to
come out in detail on the witness stand.

Country singer Mindy McCready isn't challenging the New York Daily News story that said she had a relationship with Roger Clemens as a teen-ager.

"I cannot refute anything in the story," McCready told the Daily News in a story posted on its Web site Monday. "I have known Roger Clemens for a long time," she said, without detailing the nature of their relationship.

Clemens' lawyer, Rusty Hardin, confirmed the pitcher and singer had known each other for a long time but told the newspaper there was no sex.

"At no time did Roger engage in any kind of inappropriate or improper relationship with her," Hardin said in a statement Monday. "It is unfortunate that the Daily News has chosen to report anonymous allegations that are completely unfounded, have no basis in fact, and have nothing to do with Roger's baseball career or the issue of steroid use in baseball."

The News' original story, which appeared on the newspaper's Web site Sunday night and in editions Monday, quoted several people who asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the situation.

Clemens was 28 and a married father of two when he first met McCready, the newspaper reported.

Today, the AP is reporting that:

In its story Monday night, sources told the News that McCready went with Clemens to his hotel room in Fort Myers, Fla., after their first meeting but that they did not have sex. The relationship turned intimate after she later moved to Nashville and became a country star, the paper said.

The story could undermine Clemens' reputation, which is central to the defamation suit the former pitcher has filed against former personal trainer Brian McNamee. McNamee contends Clemens used performance-enhancing substances during his major league career.

"If the case heads to trial and is not dismissed, as we feel it should be, we will be calling (McCready) as a witness," McNamee's attorney, Richard Emery, told the News.

The newspaper said Clemens sent cash to McCready to help her with legal issues and reached out to her when she was in jail last year in Tennessee. Clemens sometimes sent her amounts of $25,000, the paper said.

The 32-year-old McCready was sentenced last September for violating probation from a 2004 drug arrest and was released from jail last Dec. 30. The violation occurred in July when McCready was accused of scuffling with her mother and resisting arrest at her mother's home in Fort Myers, Fla. She still must serve two years' probation.

The News-Press in Fort Myers reported on Monday that McCready's mother confirmed her daughter's long-term relationship with Clemens, but believes the relationship is strictly platonic.

McCready's Nashville-based management consultant, John Dotson, told The Tennessean Monday that McCready is in the middle of cutting a record, and also is in negotiations to do a reality show.

so Roger sent tens of thousands of dollars to help an aspiring singer and once gave her career counseling in his hotel room when she was 15. I'm sure he and Mrs. Clemens communicated frequently about their joint resolve to help the young lady out when she needed it. He's a saint. Why all the haters?

I don't know if you are trying to be funny or missed the part in the article about him having sex with her. It's not hate but folks pointing out the hypocrisy of him testifying to Congress that he was a family man and at the same time filing a lawsuit for someone impugning his character. I guess either having an extramarital affair, which the lady by saying she doesn't refute anything in the article is admitting it happened and then trying to run over someone with a lawsuit is ok if you've got millions and can afford to hire big guns. At least in my world that makes you despicable. Money can't buy character now can it?

Clemens at the very least is done being a spokesman for anything. Of course she could be lying like everyone else has been about Clemens. Clemens must be the person Diogenes was searching for (insert rolling eyes emoticon).

Clemens could get a job being a spokesman for the Hillary or Obama campaign.

Stevek you know that he is a Republican by how hard he corted Rep. Senators and how split down party lines that panel was during his testimony. How hard would those senators defended Roger if they knew he might be a sex offender?

I'm in the "Roger is Scum" camp, in case there is even a shadow of a doubt.

My tongue-in-cheek comment was based on Clemens being a liar would fit right in with Hillary and Obama who are liars.

true. but remember that Most Republican sex offenders are closeted homesexuals who molest pages or interns and spend copius amounts of time in airport bathroom stalls.

p.s. which poltician isnt a sleaze or a liar? If you say McKain you should really look into his financial dealings, the savings and loan scandal and how he treated his first wife. (adultery, cheating)

He's no saint and he misrepresents himself in a great number of ways.
