I like 'em, but that number is silly.

The people most into that series are among those that are
likely most affected by the above-noted "bad economy."
Folks Who Bite Get Bitten. Folks Who Don't Bite Get Eaten.
  • I had no idea that 01 Topps Heritage was sooo sweet! Now I know what you guys are talking about with the crappy auto checklist from this year, those are kiddy stuff compared to those beauties.

PS- don't ask why I'm still awake image

That's maybe the most insightful and well-put statement I've ever read on these boards.

sarcasm, right? I don't get the correlation?

I like the heritage autos, and if it wasn't for the price at the gas pump, i wouldn't even know there was an economy problem (lol)...

    Agree though, too much...
I would only want the HOFERS and future HOFERS and could probably get for under 2k.

I think I speak for most of the dowtrodden Heritage collectors when I say that we are really feeling the bite of George Bush's attack on our economy. We really, really wish we could collect vintage, but there just isn't enough space in our hovels to store them. The best we can do is to purchase modern cards that look like vintage, and lie to our kids and tell them that these cards were found "in grandpa's attic" or somesuch. Last winter, my family subsisted only on ketchup packets and Heritage gum. I hope to one day pay thousands for a low-pop 1966 Topps common in a PSA 9 slab, but until then, I'm forced to stare at my damn modern cards and slave away at the Fry-o-lator.

That's one classy statement...way to generalize collectors!

Those are sweet autos, the very same cards that got me hooked on heritage. The red autos have consistantly sold for well above
book. You all saw how serious some collectors are for the rarer cards in heritage! Back in 2001 and 2002, the red autos were selling
for sometimes three times book. Sadly those days are long gone and while heritage still, I believe represents what was great
about the hobby, the economy really has taken its toll.

I have all the retired autos from that year, most of them are HOF'ers, they were all the big names in the 52 set. Topps went and
put the autos in groups the next year, which killed it for me, no one realizes how rare some of those 02's are. Far less than the
200 blues usually inserted. 2003 was also a nice set, but after that the autograph checklists have become more watered down
until now the best cards are borderling HOF'ers. At least Yogi still has time to sign!

You must also recall that topps inserted 25 REAL Willie Mays 52 cards signed into boxes. I have never seen one, but that is one
of my dream cards. I wonder if Mr. Hammond has one.

    Awesome stuff!
