Interesting how Barry Bond's name has dropped off the radar screen of the sports pages and..........

the general media?

Since no team has signed him to play in 2008 and since the criminal case against him is very quiet at this time, its as if he does not exist.

Kind of a refreshing break, wot?

    Proof positive that Bonds is done...

    1. Bonds unemployed;
    2. F. Thomas employed by Jays;
    3. F. Thomas not employed by Jays;
    4. Bonds and F. Thomas both available;
    5. Bonds' baseball ability > F. Thomas' baseball ability;
    6. Oaklands needs DH;
    7. Oakland is really close to S.F.;
    8. Oakland looks at F. Thomas and Bonds; and
    9. Oakland signs F. Thomas.

    i have said it since october..BAROIS BONDZ IS DONE....bring it to the bank....execs have handshake agreement not to sign him.... f thomas thing proves it
  • Hey guys, Bonds is actually all over the radio up here, and believe me with the offense this anemic, Jay's fans want him up here.
    Next 5-7 games will be the tell-tale--5 straight losses for the Jays. If they end up 4 and 4 over the next 8 (or worse), I believe Bonds will be here. Just a hunch, but there is just too much talk about him up here on sports radio.

    Don't get me wrong, I WOULD LOVE to see Bonds in a uniform, heck any uniform, but I just don't see it happening. I hope I'm wrong though.

    I heard that Toronto isn't an option for Bonds because he's not allowed to leave the country with the impending legal issues.

    very true.....

    come on. can you actually tell me Canada WANTS/LIKES barry bonds? as a winner of babck to back world series, arent they too proud to stoop to the level of BONDZ?
  • He used to be my favorite player growing up, mainly with the Pirates (but that first year with the Giants was pretty good as well).
    But it's true, I can't stand the guy as much as anyone else. The thing is, you have perhaps the best pitching staff in the majors (yes, I still believe this), but your offense can't score runs. You release Frank Thomas because you can't wait and the leagues all-time greatest home run hitter is sitting at home. I don't know about the legal issues, perhaps he can't come up here, but I believe he will get signed here.
    The Jays used to be a team that sold 55,000 seats from the minute they opened the Skydome up until 1994, something like 6 straight years of 99% sell-outs. Over the past few years, even with a good team (although they've under-acheieved admittedly), they cannot get more than 30,000 a game up here. I believe even if you went to the game to boo him he'd still positive for the team because he'd instantly make the team better, just due to his OBP, and the controversy of it would draw people here. They also get alot of Boston and New York fans up here because it's so hard to get tickets there--I guarantee you'd have thousands more coming up just to boo him.
    I still don't know how I feel about it, but bet your bottom dollar unless somebody else slides in to get him first he'll end up here (unless Lind hits .360 in the majors like he did in the minors this year--can't see that happening though).

    You make good points, and I agree with all of them, however I believe Mr. Selig and the owners really want this steroid issue behind them, and they will do everything in their power to get this issue out of baseball. Bringing Barry back would only put the steroid issue front and center again, and baseball wants nothing to do with it. I would be very suprised to see any team sign him. I do believe that owners have a "don't ask, don't tell" policy about signing Barry. In other words, don't anyone ask him if he's available, and don't tell anyone that you'll never seek his services, even if he could help your club.

    You think Barry really wants to put up with all those opposing fans waving *'s at him again? image Not to mention his employer would take the PR hit? I agree, you can stick a fork in Barry, he's done.
