What wide receiver bust will the Lions draft this year?

Time after time the Lions just can't seem to resist that position.

The guy they drafted last year was considered a "can't miss" prospect by many in the NFL (right now I can't even remember his name).

The Lions need to forget about drafting a WR or skill position players- get them via free agency and get the BEST available OL/DL in the draft.

Bingo! A guy who understands football.

But of course perennial losers like this probably panic on draft day and pick a "glamour" position so as to help sell season tickets - which is shortsightedness that usually turns into more losing seasons.

I feel your pain brother. Before the Andy Reid era, the Eagles higher draft picks for years were filled with "glamour" position losers. Those Eagles fans who knock Andy Reid should remember that next time they call for his ouster.

although lions should of drated an ol/dl.

calvin johnson is no loser. this kid will be a 2nd round fantasy pick for years to come by his 3rd year in the league. i expect him to be much better this year coming up. then an all pro in his 3rd year in the league. he has all the skills.

Well put. You can count on one hand the number of receivers who make a significant impact during their rookie seasons. As a Lions fan I'm fully aware of Millen's draft record, but I'll take my chances any day of the week with a guy who's 6'5", runs a 4.3 and seems to have his head screwed on right as he enters his second year in the league.

Point taken, but if his quarterback doesn't have time, if the OL can't block, it doesn't really matter much how good he is - all he'll windup doing is padding his stats late in games when the Lions are blown out.

I'm confident that the Lions will continue to be a train wreck for the forseeable future (read: until old man Ford finally bites it), but it won't be Calvin Johnson's fault. The larger problem here is in drafting skill position players in the first round, which I'm becoming convinced is almost always a bad idea. Look at the Pats; they've drafted a total of SIX skill position players in the first three rounds since 2000.

You can't expect Charles Johnson and Calvin Johnson to shine when Gus Ferrotte and Charley Batch are chucking it to them, even though
I think even if Brady was back there they would still be cement hands!

I think Barry Sanders cursed the Lions for a long time, with his baby doll retirement. Maybe they should bury a Billy Sims jersey in front of
Soldier field or something! Well at least the Lions have two things going for them.....they play Minnesota twice!

Seriously-- do you even watch football? Last I checked, Charles Johnson was a DE for the Panthers. And Batch was in Pittsburgh by the time Calvin Johnson was drafted. Also, saying that the problem with the Lions is that Sanders retired early is like saying the problem with the Titanic is that the linens were ruined after being exposed to salt water.

That's a very interesting stat - and of course one of them was Tom Brady.

My Jets are looking at Gholson or Mcfadden if Davis doesn't snatch him first at #5. Matt Ryan is an interesting option, too. I'm not sold on Clemens for the future.

Stalin has proven time and time again his knowledge of sports is very limited. And he's a welcher to boot!
