    I lived there for 3 years, and there are tons of places to find coins and civil war relics. If you live in central or western MD, try going to a South Mountain Relic & Coin meeting in Williamsport and make some friends there. If you live on the eastern shore, try the Shoreseekers, who have monthly hunts. You will have to put some miles on your car to get to the good sites, but there are some great places down there.
