question on coin prices

i am in the process of selling off my coin finds, and mostly doing ebay,i look at books and web sites i.e coin archives to get a value, but im finding that im lucky to get half what im asking,so my point is
is it down to bargain hungry ebayers..
or is it that book price is just not that reliable.

I think far more information is required before anyone can offer suggestions. What are you selling? How are the coins priced in relation to the book/archive prices you've found? How are they being presented for sale? If selling on ebay, can you link to one of your auctions? How's your feedback rating? Where are you? To what locations do you ship? Ebayers tend to look for bargains, but good material usually finds its market price. -Preussen

  • well preussen, i find coins in similar condition either in sears or this type of book, on the web, coin archives, and various numastic sites covering italian coins (since i live in italy), take a good photo, give a definate description of the coin, rather than just saying "old coin for sale" my feedback back rating is 28 and 100%,i will ship anywhere.......my username in italy is patrickkelvin000..if you want to see my present sales..theres a lot more going on soon.
  • Italy has a bad rep regarding shipping. That is maybe why you are attracting less buyers.

Personally I've had two shipments through Italian post go missing and am not likely to buy from there again.
The meaning of life ? I don't know but I am sure that coins have something to do with it.

Sounds reasonable; perhaps the coins are simply not in demand? I'm no selling whiz, but when I do sell dupes, etc., I start my auctions at $0.99 with no reserve and let the market determine the price. Good Luck - Preussen

thats fair comment, but im not targeting overseas buyers at the moment as i figure that theres italian collecters who are more likely to be interested in my coins.
