An update from PCGS I received in an email this afternoon:
---------------------------------- Hi Lee,
The experts at PCGS to not want to recognize the 1971-D RDV-006 at this time. That doesn’t mean it won’t happen in the future, but for now, no. Sorry. I know this is not what you wanted to hear.
-----------------------------------
I guess we'll just have to continue to wait.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
They can recognize the positions of the edge lettering on the presidential dollars, a completely random thing, but not a major design difference like the FEV? Unbelievable! I sure would love to get mine in PCGS plastic...

Just a note on a current ebay auction for a 71-d Ike, even though the seller did not list this as a FEV he did manage to photoshop the picture just enough to make it appear to be an FEV, the only problem is he provided a link to a larger picture, I downloaded both pictures and examined them at the pixel level and in my opinion the auction photo has been altered. Don't fall for this auction hoping for a FEV.

This is TOTALLY UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!! PCGS has already recognized the 2008 REV of 2007 Silver Eagle and won't recognize the 1971-D RDV-006 "FEV" IKE Dollar?
Lee's Poll clearly shows IKE Collectors want this coin recognized.
As I stated before:
"My point is PCGS should give the players within a certain set what "the players" in that set want."
They have done this many times in the past and just TODAY they have done so in the SAC Dollar series judging by an e-mail I just received. Here it is:
Good Afternoon!
The majority has voted to make the satin finish issues required in the Sacagawea $1 Major Variety set. I will be making this change in the next day or so. Thank you for your vote and have a great weekend!

How come every other set gets what the majority want EXCEPT in The Eisenhower Dollar series?
I for one would like to know WHY PCGS refuses to recognize this MAJOR Variety?

If you examine the shape of the Gulf of Mexico, you can clearly see that this coin is not an FEV. Next, examine the craters to the right of the eagle, the one on top is much fuller than a Type 1 crater and has what appears to be a little rock almost smack in the middle of the crater wall nearest you. The bottom crater on the right has lava flow lines around the entire front of the crater while on the Type 1 crater, the flow lines are almost nonexistent.
If the seller is trying to make this appear like its an FEV, then the photo needs to be reworked a little bit more.
Gary, the satin finish versions of our current coinage is already a recognized variety, BJ is simply adding them to the Major Variety set. The FEV needs to get attributed with its own coin number before it could get added to any set.
Your point about the IKE collectors deciding what should or should not be included is a very valid one. After all, we are the ones doing the collecting right? Perhaps if each IKE collector, whether in the registry or not, would send an email to PCGS requesting that the coin get recognized and attributed, PCGS would reconsider? I hate to suggest this but I simply do not understand the stance. It's not a minor variety but an eye recognizeable major change in what was intended for the 1971-D Reverse design.
This news is very disappointing but I think it is now going to take some major promoting and interest development in this coin to get this stance turned around. Any wroters out there that want to come up with a story for Coin World or Numismatic news?
I don't have any answers but I'll continue to try.

I understand this. My point is that PCGS ASKED the SAC Dollar people if they wanted them included in the Major Varieties set. The majority said that they did and the coins were added.
Lee's poll would suggest that the majority of the IKE Dollar Collectors want the RDV-006 aka "FEV" included in the IKE Dollar Sets.
My guess is PCGS is not sure how to designate the FEV. For some reason they usually do not run with CONECA designations yet will run with CPG designations, though both are arbetrary.
I agree with Lee that there is no harm and it might even push things along if all of us that want to see the FEV designated by PCGS email that request.
And may I suggest that all of us who like "FEV" ("Friendly Eagle Variety") request that designation specifically?
The Ike Group has spent about one man-year on this issue and connected with many authorities and there is a general concensus that FEV is acceptable. But if the FEV is added to the CPG, they probably will use their own numeric designation and I would hate to see the FEV limited on PCGS tags to FS-409 or whatever it would be. Rob

OK, I'm in. I have sent my polite request to PCGS asking for the coin to be recognized and added to the registry. I also asked for their reasoning as to why they don't want to do it?
Let's keep track of sent requests as of this date,,,,,,, for those who care.

If you send a request add your name and number to this list and let's see how many e-mail requests we can send them?
PCGS generally does the right thing. Surely if they see a customer demand for adding the RDV-006 aka "FEV" they will do so. Why would they not do so? It only makes good business sense to meet customer demand.

RACC I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it. I prefer you said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand to post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!

IMO, this variety is absolutely no different than any other variety that is recognized and should be labeled as such.
