Has anyone ever changed their ebay ID?

I've been getting a ton of phishing scams lately, and I know it's because my ebay id is the same as my e-mail address.
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with changing their ID?

Do sales drop? etc....

I have changed mine before. I think when you first change it, all links and search results for your previous ID are redirected to your new one for a few months. I had no real issues with it. As for the phishing, I have no idea if that is contributing to the problem.

    Not usually.

The little changed-ID-logo stays on the page for 30-days.
Buyers can look to see what your old name was.

You can put a line in your listings and ME page about why
    you made the change.

    Thanks for the input guys.

Changing was harder than I thought it would be.

I must have tried 15 different names before I found one that wasn't already taken.

I originally had my ebay account the same as my email address also. I changed it and didn't notice any impact. It did slow down the phishing and spam to a degree but I don't think there is really anything that totally eliminates it.

Am I correct in assuming the account is used just for buying and you change it regularly to throw off the regular competitors you often bid against? Even there, with eBay masking bidder IDs so only the winner is shown after the auction is over, I am not sure how strategic this would be.

I can't think of any other reason to do this, but then again I have not given it a lot of thought. I have been using the same eBay name for years now.

I just get bored and changing my ebay user ID is the cure all for me. (:-)
