Wow! Now That's A Markup! ... From $260.00 to $1,500.00!

Now that's a markup! On 1.31.08, gemcrisp purchased a 1991 Topps Tiffany Chipper Jones PSA 10 for $259.99 here:

Chipper for $259.99

Now, gemcrisp is seeking to sell the game card for $1,500.00 here:

Chipper for $1,500.00

I understand that Chipper is doing well these days, though he left today's game with a strained quad. Still, I don't think he'll get anything close to the $1,500.00, especially since a 1991 Topps Desert Shield Chipper Jones BGS 9.5 sold for $1,012.00 on 3.19.08 here:

Chipper Desert Shield for $1,012.00

I don't have access to VCP, but my records show that Chipper's Tiffany in PSA 10 have been going for about $250.00 or so.

Marking up and offering for sale is not selling.

People can ask for moon money for things, it does not mean they get it.

    Good for you.
  • Go to ebay stores & see the prices some dealers are asking for their drek
one dealer wanted $150 for a card that sells for $30-40 every week

why does he keep the card priced at $150?
    It makes him look stupid
It's a $40 card tops, moron, Lower your price & smell the coffee

I accept best offers on my store cards. I listed an expired redemption card from 1997 for $100 after I saw a member here paid $28 for a Marcus Allen points card out of Pinnacle. I got a few emails from ebayers telling me I was dumb and then I got an offer and sold it for $40. I think listing the Chipper for that much is not crazy especialy if it is the only one online and he is taking best offers. It is his card, he can price it for whatever he wants. It is easy to be harsh on random sellers on the bay, but nobody says anything when a member here wants $1200 for 100K 1980's commons.

  • There's a sucker born every second, on Ebay and in the real world. In my opinion, that's the sole reason for them marking their cards up so high. They hope to find that one sucker who will hit the ridiculously priced BIN.

I don't see the problem. It's their merchandise, they can price it at whatever they want. It just helps me to know which sellers NOT to buy from.
