Possible new variety 1875-S Seated Liberty Quarter

This auction on Ebay had an ex-jewelry piece Seated Quarter described by the seller as being an 1875-S.
The seller said in the description that he could see the date before breaking it off the item it was on.
The S mintmark is the "Medium S" type. This mintmark is found on other years from the San Francisco mint as well as 1875.
When I saw this auction, I knew that there has not been an example reported with the mintmark in this location, but knowing that the "Medium S" is a fairly common mintmark, I thought the seller may have been wrong in describing the date as 1875.
I contacted the winning bidder, and bought the piece from him.
I have examined all the Medium S mintmark Seated Quarters I own, as well as comparing the coin to all the pictures in the Briggs book on Seated Quarters.
The only Quarter I find that is close is the strike doubled 1877-S/S, but I have never seen this variety without the strike doubled mintmark.
If anyone has a Seated Quarter with this size mintmark in this exact location I would appreciate it if you would PM me.

From what you see, do you agree with Larry Briggs in that the 2-C is the rarest die pairing for this year? If so, how uncommon is it?
