Players who charge extra for inscrpitions

What do you all think about this if it is for something like AL MVP I am ok with it but what about players that charge extra for personalzation i.e. To Mike- Best Wishes, xxxxx That is wrong imo as players all the time whine I do not want to sign cause they are gonna sell it..............I get all my autos personalized whether in person or ttm as they are mine and after I croak hopefully the kids remember their nice uncle who willed it to them. image

They all want extra cash, it's that simple.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

They'll remember the nice uncle even fonder if you don't get them personalized because they'd have more than sentimental value. I have a ton of signed sports memorabilia (baseballs, tennis balls, hockey pucks, golf balls and boxing gloves) and they all just look nicer together without personalization. I love inscriptions, but To Mike just stands out as less clean somehow.

When I met Bobby Orr in the early 90's I believe his agents told him to personalize his autos so they wouldn't be resold.

Kinda glad because there were times since then that I've needed money and may have sold one or both.

I don't mind an inscription, as long as the autograph is free. If I am paying for it and I want it inscribed, I want the inscription to read what I choose. I don't sell autographs that are given to me for free, so I don't mind
it being personalized to me. When I am writing to a HOF'er or star ttm, I ask for personalization so they KNOW it's for me. But if I am paying for an autograph, that auto may be sold so I can get my cash back out of it.
    Looking for Carl Willey items.

My understanding has always been that personalizations (i.e. "To Mike"...) aren't considered an inscription. I've worked a few autograph shows with MAB and thats what I was told from them.

I have bought a few items inscribed to other people in a group of autos I bought.

I totally agree with you. If your paying at a show you should have the signature clean and if its for free either in a public place or a request through the mail it should be totally up to the Athlete/Celebrity to decide. Actually in my experience when its for free the signer usually is more accomadating when you ask them to include a Personal Inscription
