  • It is a 2 Øre coin 50 of those made 1 Krone or about 15 cents.

It is King Olav the 5th who was the king then. I actually met him twice, he was a real gentelman.

I like Ikes!! But I especially like Viking Ships, Swedish Plate Money, and all coins Scandinavian.

  • The denomination is 2 Ore. I'm looking now to figure out what the V is on the obverse.

Edited to add: The OV monogram is for Olav the 5th. I guess someone already told you that before I did though image

Thanks so much Bob for clarifying this!! You were fortunate to meet the King himself! Where and when and How??

  • Once in Norway, and the second time in Montreal when he was on a State visit to Canada.

In Norway I worked for Kodak, and he was at a large company dinner, and since I was their only American employee, I got to sit at the table with the King. My Ex wife got really upset, since she was Norwegian, and had never met the king. It was Employees only, so she didn't get to go.

In Canada, I was living in Montreal, and was asked to nphotograph the king who was visiting our church. I spoke with him, and asked him to move, so that there would be a better background in the images. Again my Ex was upset, because I actually would think to ask the King so do something. He did move, and we had a great conversation that day.

Sorry, I can't upload one of my favorit coins of Kong Olav, I am traveling in New York city at the moment.

This is a tough and underrated coin in unc.

It's not that easy in AU.

Thanks for sharing the story behind your successful encounters with the King!!
Is that a commemorative or a circulated coin you have linked? There appears to be a signature on it.

One of my uncles, who was in the Navy during and after WWII, was on shipboard during a royal visit by King Olav.

Apparently someone hadn't been briefed correctly beforehand, because when the king's impending presence was broadcast to all hands over the PA, the ensign proudly announced, "ATTENTION ON DECK: HIS MAJESTY KING OLAV VEE."

Nice coin. I have a small collection of coins from Norway myself, since my mom was from there.

I've a small set of Norwegian coins as well, here's a 5 Kroner with the bust of Olav the 5th on it.
