Wow, Chicago 60701 is a Processing and Distribution plant that serves Algonquin and I happen to work there. For some reason the machine is not reading your mail correctly and I can't understand why it would be sent and kept in L.A. for so long then come back to us and continue back to L.A. Even if the zip code is wrong it should have been corrected by us or returned to the sender.

I'll see if anybody at the plant has any answers but Jim would probably have more resources to look up that parcel than I do. That should be a 2-3 day journey for that particulal parcel.

Still doesn't beat the postcard I sorted one time that was postmarked 1944 which I believe was redeemable for rations during World War 2.
The postcard definitely showed its age and I have absoutely no idea how that could of happened.

Very interesting story! Wonder if it was jammed up somewhere or how it wound up there?

    Jay,

Algonquins zip code is 60102 and Los Angeles has a zip code among others of 90102 so somehow the machine might be reading the 1st number of the zip code as a 9 instead of a 6. It looks like that parcel will keep looping around until a human intervenes instead of the machine. Automation can be a killer sometimes.

Jay, PM sent with a number to talk to somebody at the LA distribution plant, hopefully like Mike said getting a person involved can help.

I guess its in the endless loop of USPS. It will probably never see the light of day again. After it has been scanned so many times by the same distribution center wouldnt it be pulled out to check why it keeps getting scanned?? One would think that wouldnt take much to do. But then again I dont work there and have to deal with a fast flowing stream of mail.

I had a $500 Jordan card I sold get caught in the dreaded Elk Grove loop. I have no idea where Elk Grove is, but I picture a bunch of people slowly walking like zombies with no real purpose in life. You will eventually get your card Jay; just keep calling and bothering them until they are pissed off enough to actually track down your package.

The USPS processing plant in Elk Grove is approximately 3 miles west of O'Hare airport(Chicago). That particular plant may have some zombies working there but the majority of the staff are younger and temporary workers so there might be a few rookies.

The problem is that the processing plants are almost totally automated so the workers probably wouldn't have a chance to even see that the parcel has been looping around for months but that parcel should have eventually made it to a neighborhood station regardless of the zip code for the clerk or the letter carrier to sort by hand. They would be able to make the appropiate adjustments at the station.

Jim, what's your view on this?

Well if you go the "glass half full" route, you could be happy that you got the most value per mile possible out of the least amount of postage. image

I know the seller apparently contacted the USPS. There is no proof he ever did, if I were the buyer I would at least take the DC number to my closest PO and see what they can do. I had a package bouncing around like that, I went to my PO it was back to me in about 3 days. They put a hold on it for the next time it was scanned and it was then returned.

well this is a seller that I have bought numerous items from. i trust that he has been in contact with the PO. i myself tried calling after getting a number from Jim but was waiting for about 5 mins for the phone to be answered when i hung up. it just kept ringing and ringing. since he has been in contact with his PO manager and others at USPS i figure its best to have one person doing the communicating as not to really screw things up. if not i will take it to my PO.
