PayPal Dispute Help

Ok, I got stiffed on some baseball tickets. I paid via PayPal with my credit card, so I think I'm in decent shape. I just want to make sure I do things properly and don't give them a chance to weasel out of the way.

I've heard that if there's no delivery confirmation, the buyer is in very good shape with PayPal. Is that true? Is there some sort of a time frame that PayPal gives sellers? I paid on April 11, and the game is tomorrow, April 18. If I file now, could the seller simply send me an empty envelope with deliver confirmation and then win the dispute?

I guess I'm asking: what do I do?

Thanks a bunch, guys.

I guess the seller has vanished?

File an INR with EBAY and PayPal.

    Let PP handle the claim. If PP does not do right, your CC company will;
but, let PP go first. (They are still poofing accounts on folks who go
    to the CC company first.)

The ticks could still arrive in the AM mail.

  • The seller could send an empty envelope, but that is very doubtful if he is scamming you chances are he has done disappeared and drained his Paypal account. I imagine you will eventually have to go through your CC account, but as Storm said you need to let Paypal do their thing first otherwise Paypal can suspend your account.

It's only been 4 days. You paid on the 11th. Tickets mailed on 12th. No post on 13 and 14-16 and today is 17th. Why are we talking about empty envelopes? Just my opinion.

    Because it's time sensitve.

Sorta defeats the purpose to purchase tickets for an event held on the 18th if you don't get them until the 21st.

    Thanks, guys.

I bought these from Craigslist, not eBay. Is that going to be a huge problem? Seller says they mailed them on April 12, via priority mail, and they still haven't arrived in New York. Seller also claims to have no cellphone and only dial-up, so we can't talk on the phone. C'mon. Does anyone that fits that description have tickets in the 20th row behind the plate?

    It's only $105, but I'm pissed.

So, should I start the claim via PayPal?

Thanks a bunch for the help...

Stown, I understand that tickets are time sensitive. I just wondered why anyone is talking about blank envelopes. If these were sent in the regular mail I wouldn't expect them any sooner than today the 17th. AJW, what type of shipping did you pay for? I hope at least priority. I know that this can be frustrating, but hopefully everything works out and you enjoy your game.

I paid for priority, and the seller claims she sent them priority on April 11. Today's the 17th. Philly to New York should not take eight days via regular mail, much less via priority. The game is tomorrow and my train leaves at 9:30, so there's no chance I'll get those tickets in time. Even more frustrating, the matchup is Johan vs. Hamels, so tickets are now more expensive.

    Dammit.

Have you done the claim with paypal? the longer you wait, the more time the seller has to remove the funds.
Since it was not an ebay purchase and if seller has no funds by now, I think your credit card will be your only option.
Plus even if you file a claim it takes several days, so if magically they arrive you can cancel the claim.
Plus she is lying about having no phone, so she could lie about other stuff.

I just filed the claim through PayPal. It's not a ton of money, but it really pisses me off, anyway.

    Thanks for the help, guys.

Any other advice would be much appreciated, if there's anything else I should be thinking of.

    Alrighty then.

Craig's List is a steaming cauldron of FRAUD and FILTH.

If you can pick stuff up in person from a lister -
and are willing to risk being mugged/raped/murdered - you
can get some good deals on CL.

IT is always a BAD risk to do a mail-order CL deal with anyone
    you do not know.

You are set to go with PP. You will likley have to go to your CC,
but wait until PP decides the claim.

Well, I just got back from Philly. I got tickets to the game, but for twice what I thought I'd paid. I was very curious to see if the tickets would be in my mailbox. Of course, they weren't. I logged on to see what's happening with my PayPal dispute, and now the seller is inventing an email from me saying I emailed her to say I received the tickets.

    What a joke.

I'm assuming the seller has drained funds from her account, so PayPal won't help me. Right? So, I'll follow the PayPal process and then go to my credit card. Is that about how it goes?

    Yup.

You might turn her into Carig'sList and call the cops on her, in her hometown.

The CC company will side with you.

One more thing: the seller was listed as "verified" on PayPal. I wouldn't have sent the money if she wasn't. What, however, does that really mean? I thought it meant they had confirmed a bank account. Is that right? Does that somehow help me out?

    No.

Since the seller has now lied about the email, we KNOW she is a crook.

It is easy for crooks to get "verifiied" at PP.

Your CC company will solve it, after PP says "no."

Well, if anyone cares, PayPal found in my favor. Shockingly, they said they recovered my $105 from the seller...err...scammer's account. While the PayPal page says they reversed the charge on my credit card, I haven't seen it on my credit card site, yet. Things are looking good.

I think I'll put the $105 in my "All-Star Game Ticket Fund."

Thanks for the help, guys...and for letting me vent about it.

I'm glad things worked. I will say that somehow Paypal is giving more refunds out lately. A couple years ago, Paypal would side with me, but there'd be no money to give for a refund.
