2008-W UNC ASE Question? ? ?

Just received my '08-W Burnished ASE order and noticed that it has the new style obverse paired with the old style reverse.
Anyone else notice this?

What reason would the mint have to continue to use the reverse with the old font when the '08 Proofs and non-MM ASEs have the new reverse?

Regards,

John

Need the following OBW rolls to complete my 46-64 Roosevelt roll set:
1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S.
Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!

    check the font on the reverse;

isn't there a "foot" on the U in the reverse?

    it's new too.

That's correct but there was also a reverse hub font change for the '08s.
Compare the "U" in United on the '08 Proofs or no MM ASEs with an '07 then ck. the '08 rev.

I've got all the 08's. What are you talking about?

I've got all three types of 08 ASEs and they're all the same obv and rev., bullion, proof, burnished unc, all the same new font, new style, etc.

The reverse on these '08-Ws are identical to the 2007-W rev.

    Leftover dies a possibility?

Sure hope some more folks find this so ya'll don't think that I've absoutely lost it. image

    please

edit: It's been my contention that sooner or later the mint would realize their capitalization error and we'd have us a new low mintage coin this year when they rushed to create a coin with corrections.

some of the 2007 annual dollar sets (XA1) have the 2008 re~design with 2007 date, that's been some of the reason for the hold-up on shipments. Congress needs to okay it and are debating about using them for the economic stimulus plan.

    j/k (obviously)

This is the obverse. Another freehand shot with this cheap little Coolpix point & shoot.

As you can see, this is the new design '08 die, matched with an old style reverse die.
They are not all like this?

To me it looks like you have a winner.

I think the mint does things like this on purpose to increase interest and sales.

Way to go! I'm so glad someone got an ASE with an upper case U in UNITED.

Now, which is going to be the lower mintage, the original lower case variety or the upper case one? Did the Mint intentionally correct this or wtf, over? Maybe I'm imagining all this.

yeah, all six of my ASEs have lower case U's.

If halfhunter isn't kidding us, this may be the find I've expected since January, a correction by the Mint.

The two that I got are definately the '07 type rev.

Just thinking, bet this would make a neat multi-holder set.

yeah rg, I couldn't believe the Mint used a lower case U. They've used one for a while, various places. Check back on the regular Washies versus the spaghetti-hair Washies. I believe there was a change in the fonts used on the quarter somewhere in that period.

This use in UNITED on the 2008 ASE is/was just flat wrong, IMHO.

They've been using that same "U" for ten years on the state quarters. Chill.

Sorry, I don't do quarters usually, ...didn't notice it 'til the 08 ASEs.

It's still inappropriate spelling, IMHO, but that never stopped anyone around here.

edit: I mean the use of the lower case in TRuST on the quarters. I didn't even think of the use of a lower case U in UNITED, at the time I noticed the TRuST.

Seems like the 'u' in trust on the obverse has the same kind of schizophrenia as the reverse.

Yes, but since the dates are on the hubs you are not going to find a 2008 coin with the obverse style of 2007.

The stars are larger and closer together also on the 08s. Be nice if you found the larger and closer stars on a 07 that I believe would make them special more so than the U.

I wonder if any have been slabbed yet as First Strike Designation and not identified if a variety is ever assigned.

I have two unopend boxes of 5 that are really rattling around. So I think I have the same problem, but don't want to open them yet.
