Does anyone visit Sam Sloat Coins in Westport, CT on a regular basis?

I just took a new job with a new Man. Although I am still enslaved, the upshot is that my office is about 5 minutes from Sam Sloat Coins in Westport, CT. I am typically not a "hanging out at a coin shop" kind of guy. When I want a coin, I put in a call to my preferred dealer and tell him to buy me xyz coin. However, now being so close to a coin shop, perhaps I should start hanging out with the coin shop groupies and interacting with the general public.

Does anyone have any specific experience with Sam Sloat Coins in Westport, CT? I have been to the shop before, and one of the guys regularly insulted my coins. But I won't let that stop me. Does anyone here regularly visit the store? How often does the inventory change?

Their Numismatist Ads look like the beginning credits of "Star Wars"

"COINS GOLD SILVER WE BUY EVERYTHING WE BUY IT ALL -- SEND YOUR COINS TO US FOR OUR OFFER AND SAME DAY CHECK"

Except the words are in a pyramid.

I've only bought from them via eBay. I got an excellent deal on an 1876 half eagle I wish I wouldn't have sold (financial responsibility to my family prevailed) and another great deal on a large George V silver jubilee medal. If I lived anywhere in the area I'd like to be able to visit their store and see what they had.

  • I strongly recommend them. They're good folks who, once you get to know them, can show you some neat coins. I've been friends with the folks there for over 10 years and never had a problem.

Best of luck in connection with the new job... I would go there. Even though I have not been to the shop, I have bought from them at shows... I have never been disappointed. It is worth a trip followed by trips to see what has turned up since the last visit. Very fair to buy from...

I have a coin from there. When my brother had the mis-fortune of living on the east coast, he picked it up for me as a Christmas gift.
